Hope Pprune's devoted readership won't mind me shamelessly plugging TWA's latest venture...

6 Regiment Army Air Corps (Volunteers) is an Attack Helicopter Ground Crew Regiment equipped to support the Regular Army in providing vital Attack Helicopter Support. We are looking for people to train as:

* Re-arming and Re-fuelling Specialists,
* Command Post Operators and Signallers,
* Drivers,
* Logistic Specialists (Chefs & Supply) and
* Clerks.

We also look for individuals with the leadership skills, confidence and maturity to become Officers.


7 Regiment Army Air Corps (Volunteers) is unique within the TA as we directly support HQ Land Command with battlefield helicopter tasking. During peacetime this mainly consists of liaison flying, regular and TA exercise support, TA and cadet familiarisation flights and general Regiment training.

No previous military experence is required to join as a member of our groundcrew as we will provide all the training that you require, that being said we are always more than happy to receive enquiries from ex-Regular, ex-TA or serving TA personnel.

6 Regt's first Sqn - 677 Sqn - will be based in Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk. A Royal Artillery (Volunteers) sub-unit will re-badge to AAC on 2nd July.

A further Sqn is mooted for Dishforth, North Yorkshire in the future, but this is still under consideration.

7 Regt is based at Airfield Camp, Netheravon, Wiltshire, with detached flights at Shawbury and Leuchars.

Careful now, The Helpful Stacker will start go all misty eyed remembering the good times in the Mill!

Frog this sounds bl@@dy superb but before I rush down to Handbrake house for my application form I wonder if you can clear up a couple of small points for me:E

Will I run any sort of risk during my training of being bullied or an increased risk of "suicide"

Will I be expected to regularly "dig" my own accomodation?

Because my superiors will be so worried that I will end up fighting will I be subject to a two can or less rule everywhere I go in the world?

Will I still be taught during training that if I don't understand someone/something then punch/hit it?

Despite being a 48 year old WO1 will I still be treated like the lowest common denominator in everything I do (Basra:ugh: )

Will I be commanded by a chinless wonder with a black lab, some posh jock walking stick, public school accent and the brains of a duck?

Will I always look back and wonder why I was the only one ever to remuster from the Airforce to the Army?

It's half six in the morning and I am a bit bleary eyed so forgive me if I have a few more questions later, however if you could just clear up these small mis conceptions I will get my app sorted ASAP:p

The AAC has an ongoing need to support Regular units on Ops, especially those that fly the 'beast' that is AH-64, the RA has a diminished need for TA Cloudpunchers. One TA Re-Balancing exercise later and - Voila - 6 Regt !

As we all know Afghanistan is (at the very least) a three year commitment but 6 Regt is going to take some time to get off the ground :hmm: so to speak.

No cab rides in the Apache, certainly, but Gazelles, Lynxes, yes. Rigger Marshaller, Landing Point Commander, Helicopter Handling Instructor courses on offer as well as the aviation specialist training (fuel, comms etc.).

Dealing with officers ? Yeah, I can relate to what you are saying, 'A-B-i-W'. After 20 years in the TA you would think that I would know better as well !! But I still reckon that being in the mob has done me some good over all these years.

What makes you think that you would transfer as a WO1?

I suppose if you worked hard and kept your nose clean you might get promoted, but there's no guarantee.

Yep, if I transferred to the Elite Air Force as a door opener I doubt if I could cope with the pay drop either. :{

On a serious note, I am very interested in this as Bury is in my manor, trouble is I'm a knakered old fart at 42. Would that be too old for TA service even though I'm an ex RAF SNCO?
