Nav Bags
 

I have a feeling this has been done to death on here already, but does anyone know where to get hold of one of the original Nav Bags?

The only one I can find to replace my dead one looks like it was made for "Back to School" at Woolworths...

Thanks for any pointers.

ratty but that one is new. Now mine is not even purple, more a muddy brown with any number of hours under its straps and unused since the 1970s. Now that is vintage and could even come with straight edge, pencil box and Mk 4 computer.

Even chinagraphs with dayglo bands.:)

I saw a chinagraph once.... Think it was at the FAA museum

I have a Chinagraph from the early 70's where the point is exposed by unwrapping a very thin wood veneer. (Using a knife on it would be sacrilege.) Is this a "proper" chinagraph?

I'm the proud owner of one of those as well. Or at least I was (proud, that is) 'til the age of it, and the age it represented, hit me with the terrible truth that I was old, out of touch, insignificant, a navigator, thwice married, living in Scotland, driving a Renault people carrier, retired from flying forever except as SLF, might not live to see Rooney play in the World Cup, never owned or operated a Weber, enjoy cricket and furthermore, also own a mini version of the bag ( Buccs for the use of).:{ :O :{ :O
Also got a blue/grey box full of equipment to move a position line round a corner on an air plot, optimized for bubble sextant star shot sorties! So... beat that you other sad sods.:D

SFAIK the true original nav bags were 2 ft square green canvas hold alls, rather like the flatpacks artists use to carry their portfolios, and two longish green canvas carrying handles. These were is use in the late 50s and a hang over from WWII, probably!

Original as in the ones that were in use in the late 80's, not a civvy one, an RAF one. Canvas holdall type, but with leather straps and a general "lived in" feel - not the crappy Felt-type ones with straps that should attach a windsurf board to the top of your car.

As for the rest of it, I'm afraid I fail, can't raise anything after "I have a compass corrector key to re-synch the API"

Thanks for any clues, pointers, substitutes (that's SUBstitutes), knitting patterns, ex-Navs who are 80+ with heart conditions all well received.

I've got a sun compass, all I need is an astrodome moving at 130kts.

Anyone any ideas where i can get hold of an RAF type map plotting tool?

The one with the shapes (fuel circles, IP squares etc) for drawing around....

I've got a nav bag and TWO small bags (Buccs for the use of). The small one is very useful on long trips in the Hawk as it sits nicely under your right elbow on the panel down the right side of the cockpit.:) :) :)

WW2 escaper's silk map
and a 50s vintage 'goolie chit' for the Aden Peninsula ...
all personal issue, apart from the silk map!!
