Any AAC pilots on here?
 
I would like to hear from any AAC pilots regarding how hard it is to get through everything they have done in the military to get to where they are now.

I am 24 years old and am torn between becoming a pilot and joining the forces so want to know if i could do both.

Would i be to old? i.e once i have got through training and risen up the ranks high enough for me to apply.
I have a PPL(A). Would this help?
Would i be better joining another regiment(not AAC) with a faster promotion rate to get to Corpral?

Please dont hold back if you do not think i could make it then that is what i want to hear.

Sorry if it appeared negative, mate, in your position I'd have appreciated something more positive too. On the bright side, the advice might save you a lot of wasted time.

If you're going into a career in commercial aviation, good luck.

Ooh, the dizzy hights of Cpl, eh.... I guess Apache is quite appealing if you like living in tents.

Really don't think we should waste too much time on the likes of 6foottanker, obviously not yet in a command position and still to be tried and tested, no previous experience of decision making and possibly already 'career orientated' away from such possibilities.
RHS VC10 year 2005 doesn't exactly leap out as the future leader, does it?

Crap Pilot, take all the sensible advice you can get, throw it into the balance and then toss a coin, if it comes down and fills you with dissapointment, ignore it and do the other thing, if it fills you with pleasure, follow it! You have but one life.

Crap,

Things ain't what they were mate. I did the "old" Army Pilot course 20 years ago, did my 4 years bond afterwards (total time served, 15 years), then did my ATPL(H) exam crammer at the City of London Poly as a resettlement course. Very cheap !!

If you plan to join and do an Army course, if you have the qualifications my advice would be to go the officer route as you'll go straight on a course after Sandhurst.

I don't know what negitive stuff you may have heard but flying in the AAC is well worth the effort,
As for joining another arm before going for pilot, it is probably the best bet, might be faster promotion if you go for a remf unit, but you should not overlook the option of either inf or RAC or similiar, this might take slightly longer (only slightly) but will give you an insight into the battlefield that the likes of "sixfoottanker" could only read about in janes manuals. It's also possable that the OC's/CO's of these units will give you more backing in your application, a problem for some of the 'true blue' chaps.
Don't be put off by fools like the aformentioned 'tanker' and get yourself down the the recruiting office before it's too late. (32 for wings)
