Waddo Airshow 2005

Yawn yawn yawn...boring, £50 for a family of 4. Never again.

Waddo

Sorry, can't agree. Well arranged, well run show with a good mix of stuff for Joe Public. Loved the Mig 29 but got to say my family and I did sleep during the Army flying bit.......

Maple 01 3rd Jul 2005 19:52

I enjoyed it, big thanks to all those involved, from the lowest air cadet to the head honcho

Grob Driver 3rd Jul 2005 21:33

Phoney… I can’t agree with you either. I thought it was a very well run show with plenty to see given the current commitments that the boys (and girls!) are under. I can’t think of anything they advertised that didn’t show up. I thought all in all it was a great day out.

Was particularly pleased to see the line up of Austers there! Now that’s a real aircraft!

Hats off one again to the Chinook display… Yet another fantastic performance! Merlin was pretty good too!

A huge amount of work goes into the organising of the biggest RAF show. You have to work hard to achieve a balance between the family day out, the enthusiasts and the knowledgable.

The RAF are the best in the world at it - clearly, however, we failed in all counts in your case. For that, on behalf of the show organisers, I humbly apologise. Unfortunately, a refund is not possibe. However, you will know not to come next year.

You will have a full day uninterrupted to pursue your fascinating hobbies.

Tony,

looks like you're in a minority old chum, and I have to agree with everyone elses comments also. Another great airshow at Waddo.
Well done to Paul and Mal for all their work and all the backroom staff, who I know contribute so much to a safe and succesful show.

Grob, like you I was delighted to see all those Austers, particularly the military examples - well done to them all.

Likewise, the star had to be the Chinook, but that Mig-29 is still an impressive beast isn't it?

Once again, many thanks to all at Waddington, and Tony...maybe you should have gone to that little 'shindig' in the park in London, or maybe stay at home next year and watch the tennis!??

Kind regards to all
TSM

You seem to be trying to start something. If you didn't enjoy the day why mention it here? Did you expect someone to hand you a handkerchief and "There there now!"?

Had a great day out myself as did all the bunch I was with (Canberra Assoc). Only complaint, the only one, we heard was from one old bloke who was really disappointed the B-25 didn't make an appearance. He used to fly them and had been looking forward to watching one in der luft again.

And no matter what anybody says about it, the Typhie's take off was kindly commented upon as being "like the Lightning's used to do".

Stars of the show? All the aircraft and aircrew and service types that made for such a good day out. (yes, even the Poles!)

Congrats to Paul and Mal for another great show.

Thoroughly enjoyable day. Well done to all involved. Sometimes airshows drag on, have 'average' commentators, too many people for too small an area etc, etc. This is the second time that my family and I have been to Waddington and it won't be the last. And the two guys on Airshow FM even make getting out of the Car Park bearable.

Another satisfied customer here. An excellent day out with plenty to keep the whole family happy – aged 5, 8, 30ish and a sad old 40 plus spotter.
I know the effort that the whole station makes to put the show on and this year was excellent.

I was even parked next to my old Barrack Block from my first tour there in 1979, so was able to start to bore the family early with “when I was ………” to accompaniment of loud groans all round.

Well done all involved.

Well I'd have traded places with you.....I was all set to go until Friday night, when other matters stepped in and forced the cancellation of my trip.

Every time I've been, the show has been enjoyable, even last year when so many participants pulled out at short notice. Waddo's a happy station and it shows.

Keep it up guys and gals and I'll try and see you next year!

My kids and ex had a great day. I couldn't make it, as I was training for a certain bike ride you may have noticed the odd banner ad for ;)

Having been a participant in many air shows in the dim and distant past, I am well aware of the effort that goes into organising these things - and this on top of all the regular, emergency, and Bliar special tasking.

Well done Waddington.

Yes,
Another great show....third year for the family and me,.....how I wish I had stayed in the RAF, but good old "options for change " in 1992 put paid to my dreams......had a blow out on the old caravan on the way home though, and just as I was overtaking an artic as well. But it was still worth it....when is next years show?

hairyclameater 5th Jul 2005 08:44

Yep, a good show with some real gems for enthusiasts and gp alike, HOWEVER if you do get such lovely, photogenic beasts as Mig21s, Phantoms, Greek F16s, Tiger Puma and fancy tailed RAF stuff WHY OH WHY bury them in the middle of funfairs and the like with the barriers actually forming part of the aircraft?? Some of us do like our piccies of aeroplanes and would like to be able to take some!!??:( :*
Soooo much room on alpha dispersal for tidy parking, as proved by what was on there and just move the barriers back, at least so they dont touch the aircrfaft!! Come on guys, simple things for simple people to enjoy themselves, please take advice from enthusiasts on what they would like piccies of......

Finally, is that special tailed E3D going any where else, be nice to get a piccy of that without a chipmunk or toilet block spoiling it ;)
