Herc Low level
At 2025L last night 07 June 05, 8 miles south of Stratford Upon Avon in Warwickshire, my house was subject to a low level pass by a hercules. Straight over the top of my house. I do live on top of a hill which helped somewhat.
Absolutely bloody brilliant. Made my evening. Thanks chaps ... and feel free to do it again. Sully |
You're welcome. Give us a grid reference and I'll try to oblige in future! (wasn't me, BTW)

put Sully's grid into multimap.co.uk and at the 1:25000 scale you'll find he lives 750m to the east of:-

Evening.
Just thought i would add this to the above,a shot at low level for you. Richard http://hometown.aol.co.uk/SPEC%20INST/Herc+1.jpg |
Great picture. Thankyou.
If the crews want to drop a lightweight landy into one of the fields that would be fine by me. I sure can put it too good use. How much low level do you do as a rule? say per month. Our company is used in the event of an oil slick at sea by the MCA for spraying dispersant, so we do training every so often. Sully |
drop a lightweight landy |
Note to BEAGLE!
There you are Beag's. Somebody loves them!!!
It's a long time since I heard anyone lavish such praise on the noisy smokey Vickers thing! (Apart from mud-slinging, geriatric, ex training Captains that is!) I suspect the crew in question didn't need (or not have sufficient trust from those on high) to be shown the route in advance by aircrew from an adjacent base either! Of course had it been a J model...... |
whilst we're at it, thanks to the crew who flew past Pembrey race track pm 8 Jun, reminded me of days gone by..............
Fantastic weather, watching the boss and his race team testing their latest vehicle, shooting sh1t with the mechanics, duty visit by the Welsh relatives thrown in for good measure, departed at 6pm, home in N Yorks at 7pm CAVOK. Well, would have been a good day if I didn't then have to go over to EGCC to sit the Air Law exam (rip off but there you go)....civvies! |
Hi Sully.
Glad you liked the first picture, here is an other for you. Richard http://hometown.aol.co.uk/SPEC%20INST/IMG_9041.jpg |
I was on a CCF camp at Lyneham once and I was fortunate to see "The Green Barrows" doing some flight training. Also got to ride in the back of one while it did a low pass over the base with the ramp down!
Those were the days eh!? |
To make our guests to England feel equally welcome I'd love a chunky nosed C-130 over me anytime.

Ta very much. |
Best view of the Fat Albert is the one you get as you are shouting "One thousand, two thousand ..."
This was the best I could find in a hurry: http://www.dod.gov/photos/Jun2000/00...003_screen.jpg |
Some very nice chaps picked up a few of our employees in a spot of bother down below the Sahara a few years ago. I am reliably informed that the most wonderful sound in the world is that of a Herc coming in low when you are scared and tired. I know that one of them cries when they hear one.:{
|
The sound of the Herc at Low level over my house was superb.
I could hear it a fair way off, then saw it appear over the top of the hill. So nice. I had no idea what mark the aircraft was but, lets put it this way, not a lot of exhaust smoke. I remember years ago I had a video called Fat Albert that was a special sold in memory of the crew that passed away after the crash in scotland. Where can I get it on DVD? Sully |
One of the crew (I believe) that was killed in the crash was a guy who I was on IOT with - Graham Southard, who was GD(P) in old speak!
Fine fellow - we got recoursed together and I shared a snowhole with him in the Cairngorms for 3 days!! |
Just This Once.
Yes it was the loop. If you drop me an EM i will forward you on a full size.... I seem to have had a few requests for the sunset shot,if anyone wants a copy let me know i will oblige with pleasure. Richard. |
