The Worlds' Best Beercall

Love 'em or hate 'em, you have to admit that beercalls are engraved into the heart of service socialising.

Most have been to one, most have had a leaving section/sqn/service beercall held for them.

BUT, if you could have a beercall to end all beercalls, where would you hold it? why are you having it and who would you most like to invite??????????????????????????

Pontius Navigator 3rd May 2005 21:27

I liked the venue at New Plymouth (name dropping). The urinals were as long as the bar only double sided. BLISS.

exleckie 3rd May 2005 21:40

My ultimate beercall would be at the teepee rock club in limassol. what a really laid back place.

The reason to have a beercall? In memory of the guys who died in the Iraq herc crash.

Who would I most like to invite? I think it would have to be Buff Hoon just so that I could watch him suffer in the "after five pints chest prodding session"

With the rest of the ppruners queuing up behind me for their turn at him.

Moose McGillycuddy's Pub & Cafe, 310 Lewers, Waikiki, Hawaii......

With anyone who was on 101 in the pre-GW1 days!

The reggae bar down the beach from the Pelangi Beach Hotel on Langkawi has to be the venue - Elvis, do you still have the bill for the beers with the Reds? Something like 164 beers = a squillion Ringits = 2 pounds 65p or thereabouts. I'd have the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and all the fighter pilots who could make it.

Whilst waiting for a new bit for our broken FunBus in Wichita, we had to move out of the Marriott because the rooms were needed for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.

So we moved to the Holiday Inn. Which had nightly FREE Happy Hours, no cost, nada, zippo, zilch dollar$ - and was within staggering distance of the local Hooters!

Happy times!! So a beer call there would be great; the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders would be most welcome and we might even allow the odd FJ mate in as well! Just as long as they don't say "Team", "Bona".........or "Reds".

:D

Tell me more about this Teepee Rock Club

I've become institutionalised with the Gay Karaoke at the Step Inn then the Triangle disco.

I'm ready for a change.

BE

A great place for a beer call. Fond memories :ok:

I understand that 31 Sqn ex-Jag mates hold reunions at the Blue Oyster Bar in San Francisco....??

Anita Bush 4th May 2005 08:41

Any branch of 'Hooters'.......because of the 'nice jugs'.

BEagle 4th May 2005 08:53

There's even a Hooters in Nottingham now....

Don't suppose it'll be quite the same as the one on Clearwater, Florida! See www.originalhooters.com , not the more politically correct www.hooters.com .

Another good FunBus destination back before things were ruined by the fun detectors and that tit Kelvin Rucksack.

Nottingham Hooters

Doesn't quite have the same 'ring' does it!

Do the young ladies speak in American accents or native Nottingham? There again....who cares? I would not go for the conversation.

If you Know where Burger King and the City Pride Bar on the main Limassol drag (not too far from the Step and the Old Triangle), you can't go too wrong. Walking towards BK, turn left at the City Pride and walk up that road for around 150 yards.

You can't miss it because to get in you walk through a wigwam which is a bit of a giveaway to the place..

Good music, relaxed crowd (both Cypriot and British) Ice cold beer in deep frozen glasses, waitress service, good prices. Doormen have a no tw@ts policy

None of the "Oi you lookin at my bird / did you spill my pint" types and fortunately only chilled holidaymakers go in there.

I took a couple of friends in there for the first time a few weeks ago and they didn't want to go anywhere else.

A little gem.

The Nottingham Hooters is quite a nice little place. handy for the football, rugby and cricket grounds and good food. The girls vary from fantastic to a bit ropey though.

There was also one in Birmingham but, oddly enough, it died a death.

buoy15 4th May 2005 18:38

I would like a beer call for the people who told Eric Clapton and Elvis Costello they could sing.

Then I could buy lots of beer and throw it over them.

Ha ! Luxury !

P-T-Gamekeeper 4th May 2005 19:38

I would like to hold a beercall for all who are leaving in the curent rush to Heathrow.

We would hold it in a nice pub, somewhere in the UK, probably on a Bank Holiday Weekend - something I've not seen for a while.

I would invite all the people I've let down/cancelled over the last 11 years, to try and prove that once again, I am a real person, not an apologetic answerphone message.

exleckie 4th May 2005 21:20

There are many people here on this forum, both serving and ex serving.

How about sorting a PPruners( Military) get together so the faces behind the handles can have a talk, whinge, beer( most def beer) and get some kind of members club up and running.

While we can't replace the service / ex service associations, maybe we can form some kind of charity to support various organisations, while having a damn good time doing it.

Thoughts please.

Go on Beagle, let us into the secret! Is it the story of the 31 Sqn pilot who got into the wrong bed 'by mistake'?:E

Stan Bydike 5th May 2005 17:44

Beagle,

Ref McGillycuddys in Lewers Street. Us Nimrod chappies vastly preferred Dukes, under one of the Outriggers especially for a late afternoon, right on the beach with the approptiate sights to be seen.

Mind you there are some good pubs around the Lewers Street area :}

JessTheDog 5th May 2005 18:59

The Hofbrauhaus in Munchen! A (nice but slow) train ride from Oberammergau and Garmisch!

Why? A day with a "y" in it will do!

In Munchen sind ein Hofbrauhaus,
Ein, Zwei, Prosit!
