Dogs on base
Nothing to fly today, but something has just cheered me up. Apparently in a certain helicopter base in the SW of England, you need to get a pass to bring your dog through the gate.
No, seriously. Is this normal? Do other MoD establishments discriminate against our canine companions? Surely the Army would cease to operate if the Officers could not bring their faithful friends with them. Or do they too have to have a pass? Answers on a postcard, or comparable absurd rules would continue to raise spirits.....:ok: |
Certainly needed one for dogs on a training base nr york.
For those brought back on a saturday night at least!!!! haha! Turbine |
When resident on a certain helicopter base in Shropshire, ones hound was required to be registered at the Guardroom and had a RAF issue tag around his neck. Unfortunately said hound did not appreciate the rank structure in the RAF and took great delight in pursueing the Stn Cdrs cat around the sports field. :p

Canine companions are strictly forbidden at the Purple Learning Centre. The rest of the DA site, though, appears to have a large Labrador quotient.
When the switch over from Bracknell to Shrivenham took place, it is reputed that at least two DS PVR'd rather than leave Fido at home... |
TurbineTooHot,
If memory serves, the 2 most notorious dogs were already employed on stn! Not that I'd er, know, er, or 'owt. Coat, getting.... :\ |
This is discrimination!
I want to bring my Cat on to the base. Does he need a pass too? |
This may seem like a flippant topic but I have it on good authority that morale dipped considerably in a certain corner of the airfield. Equal Opportunities isn't just for humans you know.
|
GreenH,
I don't think there will be a problem as bringing "pussy" on base has never been a issue in the past:E The main problem here seems to be "dogs", and as I see it this will strictly be a groundcrew problem, as us aircrew chaps simply don't do dogs:E all spelling mistakes are "df" alcohol induced |
Is that because dogs are above your capabilities, so you have to settle for hippocrocodillapigs instead?
:p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p |
Archimedes
A well known ppruner completely ignored the rules when the Staff College opened at Shriv and nobody (to my knowledge) said anything because the hound was really big! Rubic |
Shortly after my Boss of the time bought 2 boisterous black labrador puppies, I saw his delightful wife taking the happy waggy-tailed hooligans for a morning stroll one day as I drove in to work.
Which explains why I later made the somewhat surprising comment to him: "Hey, Boss - saw your wife with her puppies out this morning!" Being the all-round good guy he is (as all at the Covert Oxonian Aerodrome would surely agree), he pi$$ed himself with laughter. :ok: |
Tops, Beags, just tops...
|
RubiC,
Do you mean the really large doggie (who seemed to be about the size of a small horse)? Didn't know he'd been over to Shriv at all : must have missed him - somehow - perhaps he didn't come for coffee like he used to? I do know that an Army DS had a bit of a telling off for smuggling his dog in (dog unfortunately revealed presence as COS was doing his rounds...). |
Dogs on the base...... I went out with her for a while...
|
Of course, no dogs at all in JSCSC, that would be unacceptable.
Horses, however, are perfectly OK. And motorbikes... |
As they say in certain parts of the world.....
A dog isn't just for Christmas. Eat one at New Year, too. :} |
Dogs of War, anyone?
Sorry:O |
PCD - and the odd Lotus Elise... :ooh:
|
The horse sh1t and motorbike tire marks all over that big red carpet looked especially lovely going into breakfast the next morning!
|
So, if you did follow out the instructions and had the dogs picture taken, stored on file etc etc ...
Do you honestly think that the security would be able to tell one black labrador from another. No i didnt think so either. Rules are rules though and should be observed at all times. "He who dares Rodders, he who dares." ;) |
