JBI....... nice

At an undisclosed location in Canada near a big lake. Whilst talking about the lack of flying due to temp the Boss informed the Sqn that the JBI truck had just slide off the runway. Another perfect launch the fleet day then. :hmm:

If anyone at Valley would like play a new game of guess the temp in Canada feel free.

PPRuNeUser0172 20th Dec 2004 16:24

For those who arent familiar with JBI, it is the James Braking Index. Theres a strange irony here somewhere.............;)

I reckon its about -29.7 with windchill.........just a guess:ok:

the_cyclone 20th Dec 2004 18:55

Has it got to minus 40 yet???!!

PPRuNeUser0172 20th Dec 2004 19:10

Its getting there, but its ok as its a"dry cold" whatever that is, still 'kin freezing

token 20th Dec 2004 19:20

Luckily the temperature didn't rise above freezing at the weekend, melting all the snow, and leaving it to re-freeze into ice. Cos that would be 'kin lethal.
Oh, hang on a minute...

PPRuNeUser0172 20th Dec 2004 20:08

Nice one Mike, but that doesnt incorporate the nice wind chill factor here today! Good use of resources though!

Oh how we laughed;)

Spare Time

Okay, so you're in Canada, near a lake of the Cold variety and the temp drops. Eventually someone says 'stack'.

What do you do with all that time on your hands? Surely it must be a bit of a 'mare, stuck in the middle of nowhere and unable to fly...

Answers written in yellow snow please.

Saw some geezer in the bar a few months ago trying to hide all the Canada velcro with XX Sqn badges, so I went over for a chat, to see if he'd enjoyed it as much as I had. "Rubbish" came the surprising reply "Was there for 6 months and made it to Edmonton twice". When we were there, they gave us some time off (due to snow/course timing issues) so we bought a van, went to the airport and started our tour of Canada. Started at the Falls, did Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Head-Smashed-in-Buffalo-Jump (nothing there!), Banff and Vancouver.

What I'm trying to say is that when you leave Freezing Puddle and start your OCU, the opportunities in the Air Force to do such things get less and less, so make the most of it! Not sure where you are on the course, but get out and about, get on those sno-mobiles (hey, Bombardier even build those too......) etc etc. Not many people get the opportunity, but enjoy it to the full!!!!

All the best boys and we'll see you in Blighty soon!!!!

:ok:

Hey its the cold air hitting the lake eh! But remember its much colder in Yellowknife eh!

Same sh!t different year.

I remember the 9 week gaps between trips for the cold weather. We bitched too but got in our mighty $500 dollar wagons and headed straight for the bright lights of civilisation or sucked the drive up and went skiing in Banff/Jasper. Once the wheels had unfrozen from the square shape they had acquired overnight.

Although it feels crap while your there (done frosted flyer yet? that sucks even more) its still a better deal than the "V" place.

Get yourselves out and aboot. You will regret not roadtripping canada while you can!

Its all about what you make of it at the end of the day. Anyone can sit on their arse and bitch aboot the cold/snow.

Anyone seen the mighty Ram? (http://www.ramcam.20m.com)

And I agree with the cyclone, its not cold till its been -40C without the windchill.

Ramvan... still in the carpark behind block 42! Looking slightly sorry for itself now though... :}

Whipping Boy's SATCO 5th Jan 2005 18:57

Look on the bright side. With a such a significant Temp/Dew Point differential, it is rather unlikely to get foggy.

airborne_artist 5th Jan 2005 19:07

On a trip across Canada many years ago I seem to remember some very warm Canadian welcomes once I perfected my Scottish accent!

5 Forward 6 Back 5th Jan 2005 20:27

Oh awesome; I'll be looking to go there soon then ;)

Fox_4 5th Jan 2005 20:56

The RAM lives......Great news.

Long weekend in the middle of Maple Flag and we hit the road. Icefield Parkway, Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, northern lights etc etc etc. Ate up some miles but what a trip! Liked it so much managed to get the Queen to pay for a month's expedition on my next tour at IOT

Take the advice - get out there and do it:D

Shredder78 24th Jan 2005 19:22

Thats a good point.....more time at NFTC on flying pay. But as the previous Jaguar display pilot I`d like you to use less of the "potential" when describing me as a fast jet mate.

artyhug 24th Jan 2005 19:41

What's your point?

He did say FAST jet, and all you viff viff nozzle nozzle crash boys can stop choking on your milk with laughter cos you're even worse..........

EasySqueezy 24th Jan 2005 20:44

As an ex-Jag display pilot do you get to keep the black flying suit as a souvenir?

High_Expect 24th Jan 2005 20:48
