WSOp's on the move down south!!!

Can any of the kipper fleet shed any light on the rumours of some Air Eng's and Siggy's being put on the ALM rotary cse at Shawbury to help out some of the manpower shortages!!! on SH.

In a word
No!

DP Harvey 16th Apr 2004 22:46

There are no engs leaving the kipper fleet to join the SH force at the moment. The possibility now exists for such a move, but be assured it aint happening any time soon......

Radar Riser 17th Apr 2004 08:36

yeah, cos we've got loads of Siggies and Engs up here at ISK and we don't know what to with them............Not!

Someones havin' a giraffe with you.:p

It ain't gonna happen.

This was tried many years ago on the chinny - we got some good guys - Andy Mills and Mick Hardwick are you still out there?

Showed up some of our loadies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are FE's and Ae's who have gone over to the helo world albeit on a temp basis. They are however, mainly on the SAR fleet and some of them are doing very well, it isn't just the preserve of the LM SH guys. The SAR guys may never return to their original role.

There are several FE's promised/waiting for SAR courses and SAR pre-select courses too.

There are also 2 FE's on the LM course right now. One was a FS Instr who decided to gen app for a change and has now passed the LM cse at Cran and is doin the Shawbs thing for SH, he is destined for Chinny's. The other is on the Cran LM cse right now, for whatever reason did not complete the FE world at Lyn, then asked for SAR, didn't cut it there and is now on the LM cse, destined for ??? (AE:8 )

Turnbull, Mick H is a Ginger Beer ldr at BZN, Vicky 10's.

I personally would like to do the Chinny thing for a tour but you don't just have to do the 4 mth shawb thing now, the 4 mth cse has been condensed into 10 mths now, so that and a tour, if PMA allowed it (which is very debatable) is too much for my short attention span I'm afraid.

Ginger , you must be good friends with JW to be in the know where he is posting everyone before they even grad at SHY. The current Chinook OCF course hasn't even got half way through yet so the OCF don't even know who is on the next cse from the LM side.

Also, gents, The masses of FE and Siggy's queing for SAR are these the same ones who cant pass a long course" allegedly", due to a lack of Rotary airmanship? Are they taking pay drops , or are the rotary WSOps just getting stiffed with a raw deal on the pay side of things?

If you think you are coming Chinook for 1 tour , dream on folks , you cant escape that quick , try two min!!!!
But then again it is one of the most accomplished ac in the RAF.

PS
Check out the new Chinook Air Display team this year , they are doing the circuit.

Rude,

The Ginge at SHY at the moment is one of two who are actually changing to the LM brevet, it isn't the old one off tour deal. The FS in Q is a quality chap and simply decided to have a change, incidently I understand he came top of his LM cse at Cran. We both started this FE lark together in '90 and I'm pretty sure that he always really wanted to be an SH c'man. Unfortunately for him he had an engineering qual before going to OASC.

He will/has changed to the same pay deal as an FS c'man (he will mark time).

The chinny prospect is a proposal from the system, I'm sure it's subject to change. He would simply prefer to not fly on any bird that has an FE, so avoiding any conflict of ideoligy/abilities. As those ac that don't carry FE's have the LM's more involved with engineering type stuff, he is probably better placed there. We understand that the chinny world is also short of FSs so if all goes well, the chinny fits.

The guys who are doin the SAR thang right now are far from being the dross of their own spec, on the contrary, I can think of one guy in particular who was v experienced in spec and then did the SAR thing, he has also excelled there and we don't expect to see him rtn to the fold.

I personally don't subscribe to any of the inter specialisation naff coments, I believe we all play a small but important role in Trust me Tone's silly game. As for the future, we are all destined to be in the same corall, certainly from Apr '05 any new WSOp will eventually able to re-role subject to manning. As for some of the older guard it will be on a merit/manning only basis.
