Nimrod F1 on patrol

I was reading in one of the daily rags yesterday that in the current crisis, a Nimrod will remain on patrol over London armed with AIM 9 Sidewinders.

Its good to have the biggest fighter in the world sitting over us. I'll post the link if I can find it.

:ok:

Sounds like the sort of first rate reporting usually associated with the Daily (Deadly) Express.

But surely if it was in the paper it must be true. I shall sleep safer tonight.:yuk:

The nimrod is probably quite a good choice for the task - good loiter time, sufficient armament etc. Wouldn't need to do much hard manoeuvering to get on the tail of the likely target.

Don't think it quite cuts it should it need to do a short dash.

;)

Pinch of salt, perhaps?

It happened in the Falklands, so what with all the defence spending and modernisation since the tories (Hang on!), why not again?

How long can the current MR2 config Nimrods fly-on for if the MRA4 is scapped? I thought one of the reasons for the MRA4 upgrade was that they were close to fatigue life which meant a rebuild or new buy was needed.
