That's the one, but I used another angle and a slightly wider lens and really shows the teeth off. Next question, how do I post a picture in my reply? Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't wish to dampen your enthusiasm or doubt your regard for the OCU crew, but perhaps making the aircraft a memorial to particular deceased aircrew (respect, etc) isn't as good an idea as dedicating it to, say, all F-4 crews, personnel, sqns, etc and leave out the sad bits. The USAF names all of its bases after people who have been killed in aviation accidents and there is a certain morbid feeling about it all.

Blunty, if you wish to include an image in one of your replies you need to have the image in question hosted on someones webspace, to post the image click the IMG button, type in the URL of the image and bobs yer mother's brother!

Rhino power thanks but this image, along with thousands of others are part of my own collection, having been an RAF Phot for a considerable time before I achieved bluntness. I understand about doing the hyperlink stuff, but how does tiger mate get a picture in his reply? Thanks again, and grateful for any assistance so that I can boar you with many of my Phots. Air to Air of a VC10 refuelling GR4s or head on Harrier GR3 at Gutersloh?

Blunty, Tiger_mate's picture is hyperlinked as well, unfortunately hyperlinking is the only way to add pictures to a reply as there is no way to upload a picture to the board itself.

To include an image is easy.

1. Put it on an independent website.

2. Right click on the photograph and "copy" the address given under `Properties`.

3. Reply to any given PPrune thread.

4. Whilst doing so, and at the point that you want an image: Click the "IMG" tag that is above the 1reply1 text.

5. Insert the website address of your photo making sure that http:// is not in the address twice. (which is easy to do as one set is there by default)

6. Sit back and enjoy!

OK well my attempt to try & purchase the F4 from Fairford has failed unfortunetly - had a letter back from DLO (Aircraft Disposals) at Wyton today , basically saying they were "sympathetic towards my desire to relocate this aircraft to Abingdon Airfield" for the reasons i have stated earlier in this forum but "the disposal of the Phantom is strictly governed by the conditions imposed by the US at the time of their purchase. These prevent the transfer of ownership to a non-public body unless the MOD is prepared to accept continuing responsibility of the aircraft"....... & later in the leter states "Over the recent years, as a result of similar requests for Phantom aircraft, approaches have been made to the US authorities to relax these conditions, thus allowing the transfer to private aircraft collections.To date these efforts have proved unsuccessful".......,its a shame as there aint no use for it to fly again so cannot see the US stance on it, still at least i tried!: :sad: :sad:

Usual blox from 'the authorities'. How about writing to George W Bush - he could do with the support right now.

Keep the pressure on the restrictions i believe were aimed at aircraft that could still fly!

Writing to the Yanks is not as daft as it sounds.

My Dad was attatched to the US 1st Army on WW2 on the staff of General Mark Clarke.

He was injured in action ( he said he stood on some barbed wire and got a poison foot, but I guess it was wee bit more than that) and the General said " You'll get the Purple Heart for that Arthur".
Anyway, he never got his gong from them.

Years later......he kept telling me this story, so I wrote to the Army medals office in Droitwich and told them the tale. They responded by telling me that there was no international agreement for the transfer of awards (medals) and that this was governed by international treaty. I wrote back and said "Bolleaux" as Ike and Monty had both been awarded the "other sides " gongs and wore them. I then wrote to the Mil attache in US embassy in London and told the story again. He gave me details of the US Army medal office in the States and I wrote again to them. They responded by sending me a load of forms then sent my Dad a genuine WWW2 Purple Heart and letter of appreciation on behalf of the People of the USA.
I like to think that this was a genuine response and not some oik in US just shutting the thing down by sending one.

My Dad was well chuffed.
Some months later he also got a certificate from the Mayor of Anzio commemorating the Alied landings there.

My advice.....write to everyone and dont stop until you get your Phantom. Someone out there can say YES!!!!

Indeed! Write to Mad George if you have to - as a loyal ally in the struggle to rid the world of terrorism, you would like to preserve an example of an a/c which represents the Anglo-American resolve of fomer years against other adversaries - or some such licky prose.

And bolleaux to the unimaginative jobsworths who have refused you permission so far!

New home found for Phantom
 
Just received this . . .

An historic aircraft that faced the scrapheap after being stranded at RAF Fairford following its participation in the Royal International Air Tattoo in 2003, has finally been offered a new home.
Phantom XV408 originally served with 6, 19, 23, and 29 squadrons before retiring to RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire where it was put on display on the parade ground. The Royal Air Force brought the aircraft to the Air Tattoo from RAF Halton more than two years ago to take part in its critically-acclaimed 100 Years of Flight display. However, following its departure from RAF Halton, the Phantom’s position on the parade ground was taken by a more modern RAF Tornado.
Since that time, the Royal Air Force and the Ministry of Defence have been in discussion with a number of parties to secure a future for this fighter aircraft.
Now, much to the delight of aircraft enthusiasts, arrangements have been made for the RAF to gift Phantom XV408 to the RAF Museum at Hendon. It, in turn, has agreed to loan the aircraft to the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum, situated on the site of a famous Battle of Britain airfield in West Sussex, where it will go on permanent display. RAFCTE Chief Executive Tim Prince said he was delighted that the aircraft had been saved.
“Having featured prominently in the 100 Years of Flight display it would have been a tragedy if this aircraft had then had to be scrapped. We are delighted not only that a home has been found but that it has been found at such an historic site.”
USAF Installation Commander 420th Air Base Group at RAF Fairford Col Paul Wuebold said: “The Phantom will be missed. It was nice to know that on any given day, there would be a jet on the airfield. I am quite pleased that this old warrior has found an appropriate and fitting new home."

Let go man, you are holding on too tight. That would be Anglo as in British not Anglo as in........ ? Or are you suggesting that the Anglo-French Jaguar was a purely English affair? Or the Anglo-French Puma? Or Anglo-French bilateral talks?;)

If you dont get this Phantom, there was four or five kicking around Leuchars a few years ago, dont know if they are still there but worth a phone call......

last saw the black one in the washdown hanger getting the pidgeon treatment :E
