RAF to pull out of Goose Bay?
Hot rumour from the CAF pilot's site that the RAF will be pulling out of Goose Bay fairly soon and moving the LL training to Cold Lake. Can anybody confirm?
|
yes i can confirm that, the army have bought it and are going to use it to retrain ex 47ad personnel as moose scarers !!!
whoops sorry wrong thread:{ :yuk: :} :ok: |
Damn:mad: One of the best "df" sources bites the dust..........not that it had much else going for it.............apart from the lovely young things in the new handling agents office:ok:
all spelling mistakes are "df" alcohol induced |
OBM
Do you have a link to the CAF pilot's site thread or other reliable info?

It is just likely, of course, that the RAF will continue to stage through Goose Bay as they always have. There are literally only a handful of RAF staff there now anyway.
|
Strieght out of this weeks Flight International, The RAF will pull out of Goose Bay next year, ending a 50 year relationship with the base. There goes the SAR trails then.
|
Was through there the other day and the Handling Agents confirmed the RAF were leaving soon.
I would've asked for more details but that would've required me to stay in Goose longer than was actually necessary.... Someone also suggested that the accommodation was going to be turned into some sort of hotel. I suggested he up his dosage as it clearly wasn't working.. :ok: |
Spoke to the Gander RAFLO the other day on the way back from Hawaii
(Sorry had to mention Hawaii) He told me that all permanent staff are pulling out and the squadrons will still go but will take all there support from the home unit. Goose Bay may not be the best place in the world but it sure beets IRAQ / Afghanistan and all the other places we go know. |
So...then!!!
You were one of the Western four...or five.;) How DID the imprest go???:p Regards...SFS:ok: |
not very well
I think it was in his report |
Big shame. 'Ladies' night in Trapper's cabin was one of those not to be missed nights out.
Well, maybe not! |
Ladies night? I don't remember any ladies being there!

Maxwells
It's been a few years since my last joyous stay in sunny Goose. What's the current mod state of Maxwells? I can't remember if it was Maxwell;s 3 or 4 when we were there in 2001:)

It had to come, I suppose, but Goose had some of the best OLF training & 'In-House' COMAOs [with the Cloggies and Germans] I have seen anywhere
2 weeks was the longest bearable, but the flying was great & it got the sqn together (with nowhere else to go) Cold Lake has a (better) range and the accomodation is better with Edmonton at weekends, but no Sheshat****!! I'll quietly miss the place |
Apologies guys for the schoolboy question, but when exactly did Goose Bay close down this year? Late March rings a bell. Needed for VR(T) boarding interview.
muchos thanksios LH |
NorthernSID, quite agree fab place for the flying and sqn fun, Canada catering and the Mac club - strangely there were a few beauties amongst the moose - fond memories!
|
It was always going to happen I suppose.
Being 'clawed' in the Bulldog club and staggering down to Mac bar when it was -30 will stay with me forever. Question - Why could our Torns/Hercs operate off packed ice at Gse, yet as soon as they came home and saw a Lincolnshire snowflake they would want a rwy covered in pigs piss to operate? Always got me that one Finally.......lets hope the Moose are prettier at Cold Lake:} |
