What to do in the mean time?

All of your responses have been very helpful and I thank you for that. Changing the subject slightly.........I am going to reapply in the summer for a Dec OASC date at earliest.

I am currently enrolled on a boring graduate scheme and looking for a more interesting job before I am selected. I was thinking about joining the Police and have spoken to a few people who have said if I do get in the RAF I can easily leave and if I don't get in this year I can obviously carry on in the police and I will try again next year.

I have always wanted to join the RAF but want to do something of interest in the mean time. I am just concerned as to how this would be viewed by an RAF selection board. Would they see it as lack of commitment, or would it be a positive thing? I am just looking to join the police until if/when I can join the RAF.

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions would be helpful,
Thanks as always

Thanks Mike, that was a long the lines of what I was thinking. I know the notice to the police would be fine I just wondered when I get to OASC in Dec with Max 6 months Police under my belt, whether they would think 'if he was that bothered about the RAF, why would he join the Police'

I have always been passionate about the RAF and just want to do something interesting/rewarding and useful in the meantime, whether 6 months would just seem silly to them and hinder my chances at OASC I don't know. I don't want to wait another year!!

Having been involved in Commissioning Boards before, I think that anyone who takes a positive action to join the Police Force would be an assett. Having interviewed many candidates, both Service and Civilian, I foung the first thing that made an impression was confidence, then knowledge etc. I would generally know within 10 minutes whether to accept or reject. Know what you want, why you want it, how you are going to get etc etc.

Thanks Blunty, if you were interviewing someone that had been to OASC before and joined the police but were only had just finished training, how would that sit with you?

Thanks Mike, that has certainly put my mind to rest. I am yet to put my application in......hopefully this weekend.

Thanks again

Are you involved with the ATC? If not go down there and see if you can get a place as a Civilian instructor, or somewhere along the lines. That would look damn good.

I only have 12 hrs UAS, don't think I would qualify for that. Working with the ATC would be a good idea though, thanks mummy gator

Ben

If I were interviewing you, I would want to know the reasoning behind your decision. From you previous posts, the logic seems reasonable. When I went to OASC they asked me whether I liked school, I replied in the postive. So they then asked why I had done so badly......... That is one reason why I joined as an airman and went down that route. The only regret is that I didn't go to OASC sooner.
