He’s not well, clearly, and this is his way of coping with it.
Whilst he has been ranting for years, I imagine his son committing suicide 20 months ago will not have improved his perspectives on life. Kris Ward RN

Certainly the Army and Marines along with the SAS and SBS and the RAF with its one Chinook and other helicopters played a small role in all of it one would suppose.

Yomping many miles at a time then mounting attacks on fortified positions under artillery fire did seem to have some effect on the outcome.

Very much a joint effort by all who were involved right down to the Matelots in the engine rooms of the ships and crews of the Victors and Vulcans.

A lot of good Men from all the Services were killed, maimed, and wounded in the effort.

War is a terrible and messy thing that never goes according to plan as the enemy has a way of ruining the very best plan crafted.

As to the fellow making the noise....analyze what he has to say and see if there is some merit to any of it and use that part of his utterances.

The rest can be overlooked or ignored.

Certainly there were Lessons Learned out of that conflict that should be considered even yet today.

For example, don’t keep most of the RAF helicopter assets on board and below the flight deck of the biggest and most valuable target in the conflict! Despite the pleas of the crews to get them flown away and working, when the Atlantic Conveyor was attacked and went down, only one Chinook escaped.

Imagine the loss of logistical support that one tragedy caused.

BN soldiered on like she was built to do....and should be preserved upon her end of service with the RAF.

As a dyed in the wool Chinook Pilot....I watched that with much appreciation.

I also admired the Airborne Troopers fixing bayonets and engaging the Argies in close quarters combat and prevailing.

A lot of heroism was taken for granted and was certainly not rewarded well enough.

Blimey, I thought it was a spoof site……but it’s for real? As someone that has read Sharkey’s book and certainly could believe a lot of what was claimed in it, he doesn’t seem to be doing himself or his cause any favours.

Well, there’s a space reserved in the RAF museum - they have the forward section of a CH47D painted to replicate her. 43 years and going strong with 4 DFCs

Calling a recipient of the DSC and the AFC a "prat" and a "pillock" may boost your self-esteem but says more about you than about Sharkey.

This thread is heading in the same direction as previous travesties that have descended into a series of puerile ad hominems.

And with that succinct summary, we say farewell to another Sharky thread 🤔 😢
