It is just down right gaudy looking....but to put the flag on an airplane as busy as yours is....is a very difficult task to accomplish.

Flying the flag is right and proper...and if it triggers the "woke"....do it with Reheat in full blast please!

The important thing is doing displays and showing the Flag.....and brings credit to the RAF.

Here is something that has become very popular at our Air Displays.....Legacy Flights combining generations of aircraft together in a single formation.

I first saw this type of combination "past and present" formations at Finningley in 1993, Tornado F3 with Sptifire XVI, Buccaneer and Mosquito, GR1 with Blenheim etc.

Duxford Air Displays with the WWII Warbird mix are good too....when I was there with the Huey I was hoping to get into a formation with the B-17 and Mustang....all three being iconic aircraft.

As to the Mosquito....I have a copy of "Terror in the Starboard Seat" on my "favored" Book shelf.

We have broad shoulders, and a prerequisite at the medical is sufficient skin thickness .........British Standard for a Met Person is Hippopotamus + 50%. I suspect ground crew have to meet similar criteria.

Trouble is, the Union flag is just a bit too ‘busy’ to be splashed onto a Typhoon in this fashion, and doesn’t really do much for the aircraft’s beautiful lines. I would have loved to see a design based on the RAF ensign, with the fuselage predominantly in ensign blue.

Tin hat on....

To be really honest, I'd prefer a theme in which taxpayers money wasn't spanked on vacuous display schemes at all. Surely there's better things to be spending the defence budget on? As Mogwi says, keep it looking like a warplane and let the flying do the talking. Especially as the Typhoon display is normally brilliant.

Nah, I’d rather see mine and taxpayers money spanked all over a jet to give it a great display paint scheme.

That's one of the black IX(B) jets tarted up with a few Union flags and a 29Sqn logo.

Looks pretty good up there if I dare say so myself. Even the sky is showing its traditional British colours!

A dream is a stretch, but yes it looks good. Hopefully, the next display jet will receive an even better scheme.

Given the choice I much preferred the BOB paint scheme, looked pretty dam cool.

Rumour has it the airframe is running out of hours and will most likely be RTP'd in the not too distant future.

Had the fuselage been in white...and the upper wing done as the underside had been done....it would have looked a lot better but then the pilot would have had a hard time figuring out where to look for the cockpit entrance.

Sorry.....but that paint scheme as is .....just doesn't "sing".

It does prove innovation is hard to come by in some organizations.

Granted that paint scheme would fit right in at Brighton Beach on a Bank Holiday.

I remain puzzled by the origins of a black painted Typhoon to perpetrate this on ... I thought they were grey.
Are the OCU airframes in “Trainer Black” these days, for Hi-Vis purposes? Or is this a Night Intruder variant?

It revolves around brexit. I wouldn't worry, it would only send your BP skyward.
