Parallels with the 1st AB Div in the ever reducing Oosterbeek pocket before having to withdraw across the River......but they didn't have a bridge to use to get back across!!

Is the bridge open? i know they were backfilling the shipping canal to try to reopen it. If they re-take it all, that's Crimeas water cut off again, bar that flowing over the Kerch bridge.

"New Russian cope just dropped. As always it’s unclear how much is excuses and how much is actually real. However if this tale is even close to the truth, Ukraine is employing Combined Arms in Kherson in a way that Russia couldn’t hope to achieve in the next decade never mind this year."

Sweden appears to have tracked a sub from the Gas pipe explosions back to port.

Looks like that escape route is closing behind them.

There is also reports of the Ukrainians infiltrating using the V and Z on vehicles to operate behind the lines, it reminds me of The Dirty Dozen and the armband switcheroo....... indeed one report when they started the first counter attack in the Kharkiv region say's they sent teams out to infiltrate areas and stick Ukrainian flags on any and every high vantage points making the Russians think that areas had already fallen around them, thus they fell back in disarray for fear of being over run.

Here you go

I don't know about the Geneva Convention but during WW2 you were allowed to sail (again not an army expert) under the flag of the enemy as long as you fought under your own flag. If you didn't run up your colours before battle you would be considered a spy and could be shot if captured. Germans during the Battle of the Bulge wearing US uniforms were shot if captured.

Would spoofing the opposition's IFF be considered as serious as wearing their uniforms?

I think this word ‘cope’ appeared once before, a while back. Does anyone know what this sentence means?

AFAIK, a "cope account" is one created on social media purely for propaganda purposes. Interesting usage of the word.

One definition of 'cope' is
  • (of a machine or system) have the capacity to deal successfully with.
"the roads are barely adequate to cope with the present traffic"
So it might be interpreted as meaning a way the Russians had of dealing with something has failed (dropped)........ Of course I'm probably wrong.

Hmm. Interesting. Don't know. I guess it's more akin to a counter measure. During WW2 WAAF's with excellent German would order aircraft onto different headings. Night fighters onto spoof targets and generally snarl up the airwaves.
There was a very subtle counter measure called tinsel where the sound of an aircraft's engines was broadcast onto the enemy's frequency to block any comms.

Cope is a word used to describe the act of dealing with something difficult. Online it has become an insult implying that someone is upset, particularly on Twitter, often in tandem with similar words like "seethe" and rent free.

See also Copium (cope and opium) - a fictional drug to cope and deal with loss.

Have fun exploring - there's a whole world of this type of "speak" out there: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/cope-seethe

When do you think, or not, we will have a demonstration tactical Nuclear weapon explode say within a 100km of Kiev ? Apparently this is being considered as Putin's next gambit by UK / NATO I am told. What and how would the response be formed to such an action.
Kind regards
Mr Mac

Re ‘cope’ replies above, many thanks. A dim light flickers, but I partly wish I hadn’t asked!

“Cope! Seethe! Mald!”

If my interpretation of the upper wind forecasts [and particularly the lower-uppers] such as 5000ft is correct, any demonstration of a TNW over the Black Sea might make Turkey very cross indeed.
However, my seaweed is withered, the crystal balls have dropped off and the pine cones burned to keep me warm.
