XV239 and XV230 - 2nd September

Twenty-five years ago today, XV239 and its seven man crew were lost while taking part in the Canadian International Airshow. The crew were:

Flight Lieutenant Dom Gilbert, 31
Flight Lieutenant Glenn Hooper, 25
Flight Lieutenant Nick Brooks, 26
Flight Lieutenant Bernie Worthington, 37
Sergeant Gary Moxham, 32
Sergeant Richie Williams, 28
Sergeant Craig Barnett, 32

I was lucky enough to have known most of them and been good friends with one; I remember him almost every day. Today I will be thinking of him and all the crew.

I will also be thinking of the crew of XV230 who sadly perished on the same day in 2006, over Afghanistan. They were:

Flight Lieutenant Steven Johnson, 38
Flight Lieutenant Leigh Mitchelmore, 28
Flight Lieutenant Gareth Nicholas, 40
Flight Lieutenant Al Squires , 39
Flight Lieutenant Steve Swarbrick, 28
Flight Sergeant Gary Andrews, 48
Flight Sergeant Stephen Beattie, 42
Flight Sergeant Gerard Bell, 48,
Flight Sergeant Adrian Davies, 49
Sergeant Benjamin James Knight, 25
Sergeant John Joseph Langton, 29
Sergeant Gary Paul Quilliam, 42
Corporal Oliver Simon Dicketts, the Parachute Regiment, 27
Marine Joseph David Windall, Royal Marines, 22

Again, I had known several of them and been lucky enough to be a friend of one.

I will stop at 1100 today to think of them and will visit the memorial to the crew of XV230 when I'm up in Forres next week.

Sad to read through those names, remembering all of them and flew with many of them.

Brings back memories of some great people I was fortunate enough to know. Where has the time gone?
