Question RAF Waddington Expansion.

RAF Waddington looks set to expand over the next several years with new facilities been built on the eastern side of the airfield for the Boeing E7 Wedgetail aircraft. These will include new hangars, operations building and repair & maintenance workshops, plus accommodation for 1000 personnel. With the retirement of the Sentinel R1 & E3D aircraft over the next few years, i wonder what will happen to the E3D Alpha hangar?

Will the Red Arrows go in there, or No 14 or 51 squadron when the time comes or will it become a large storage hangar. Or maybe the USAF Rivet Joint aircraft could use this as well as Fairford? wait and see what happens!

Already been discussed that Rivet Joint cannot operate successfully from Waddington so US planes are a definite no go, Fairford it is with further infrastructure planned and maybe RAF Rivets also!

Well the cleaner has told me that the Reds are going into Alpha and that 14 Sqn will move into 5 Sqn's hangar when they vacate it. Apparently Alpha is not suitable for the Wedgetail which seems a bit odd as it was suitable for 7 larger Aircraft than a B737!

A number of FTRS posts have been advertised for the Transition Team so there must be a plan!

The use of Alpha Dispersal for RAFAT answers my questionon the ‘other Thread’, by providing space for the 9-aircraft line-up before departure.

That would be a good choice to hanger them in Alpha.

So where are 14 Sqn hangared now? And what will go into wherever that is? Defenders and Islanders from Aldergrove?

We could do with an annotated map!! I know the airfield VERY well, but the Sqn numbers and types these days have created a code I canít crack without much cross-referencing to https://www.raf.mod.uk/our-organisat...af-waddington/
