+1: on the face of it, the pilot got off lightly, will likely get a fine and some soet of reprimand. The Base Commander decided letting him take off was OK, as the one with all the info, I sure ha made a pragmatic and fair decision. I'm sure it's not as if we don-t know the pilot or how to find their plane....Nicely done 3 cheers for British common sense :-))

TTN, re: your thread drift … a colonial cousin requested an ILS approach and a "hit'n git" … much mirth in ATC.

Wouldn't work with a PC12 unless you parked another vehicle behind it; like a Hercules, they can taxy backwards; I've seen them reverse into their allocated parking spaces at Fairoaks.

As Zeus stated earlier, maybe the pilot played 'the diplomatic card'

Well the person that flew the PC12 didn't have any common sense, that is definitely obvious. The base commander didn't make the decision, it was made by the duty ops officer. Some of my serving friends have a different view on what they would have done, that I concur with.

Continues the thread drift by asking: so "downwind to roll" is now "down wind to touch and go"?

Yes he broke Welsh Coronavirus Regulations but not English ones so please leave that to one side. Are we arguing his landing justified reopening Tyburn or his refusal to stay overnight?

Yes an honest question, but I will put my helmet on in case

If a pilot landed without authorization at a Air Force base un the US to go to the beach, he would not have been treated so nicely.

Yes and no - and has been for 10 years or so - but you wouldn't use the phonetically ambiguous word 'to' would you?

Depends how bad your landings are.........................

You could always say "for touch and go" to cover yourself............

Is that "for three touch and go" or "4-3 touch and go"?

Then, of course, there is that variation of "for stop and go"! Did cause the helo some way behind me on Final to query it with ATC who pointed out that "stop" means ... erm ... "stop" in a tone of voice that implied that, if the RW pilot couldn't figure that out, maybe he shouldn't have been flying that evening!

The scenario? Years ago now on my Nite QCC to Norwich where I'd pre-arranged the landing fee but, of course the regs required a full stop landing followed by a separate departure. However, the regs never said anything about actually having to taxi anywhere between arrival and departure so I was most grateful to ATC for that one and for the airport having a nice long runway (for a PA-28 if I recall). Saved a few minutes on the ground .... and annoyed a RW jock!

Ah, happy daze! H 'n' H

Or as our Cousins used to ask for, in answer to the query: "will you Land, Roll or Overshoot and what are your further intentions?" Answer: "for the Option and Pension"....Nowt like hedging your bets!
