Marine Corp Capt. Katie Higgins seems to be the first, a few years prior to Katie Cook.

You are so right. Deleted. She was Higgins when appointed, she married a fellow Blue Angel C-130 pilot Dusty Cook and appended the "Cook".

Rumour please gums, you guys and your spelling, we like exactitude. I'm sure before bubba edited his post he had the lasses name as Katie Cook, omitting the Higgins, that's what threw me. Probably the lass, being of the generation she is, would probably take exception to have her maiden name dropped in any salutation or recognition, in any event she wasn't a Cook on appointment, except in the kitchen. It's the amateur historian breaking out. As Katie is being promoted as the first female Blue Angel pilot I wonder if the first lass given a drivers seat in the jet display team will be miffed at being called the second female Blue Angels pilot.
Nice interview with Katie

There is a rumor doing the rounds that a police chopper was directly in their flight path which caused Lead to abruptly and unexpectedly reverse the turn.
No links, no evidence, just “I saw it somewhere”.

Well done that man! A professional pilot with no ego. Took the necessary action and then rejoined the formation. Would have made the display more interesting to watch if the commentator explained what was happening to those on the ground .
It just goes to show it’s harder than it looks!

Sorry, Megan, if we heathen colonists have morphed the original "King's english" word in the interest of brevity ( one letter shorter). Least we rebels have had a few female pilots join and flown a few tours as Thunderbirds. How about Arrows or Blues or.....
Our first "Bird" gal was FiFi , 15 years ago (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicole_Malachowski) , and she went right to the wing position with no year as narrator or such as is the custom for many low time pilots that make the team. A Mudhen pilot, and she done good for two seasons. Meanwhile, the Birds got a super solo pilot - Sam. See: Thunderbirds select 2nd female pilot for the 2007 season Gotta tellya, I have seen the Birds since I was a clueless yute back in the 50's with dreams, and then flew with and even trained some of them. Sam was up with Dwelle and maybe another guy I flew with, but even smoother as a solo. Great hands.

Sad, very sad to see the outcome of what should have been a fairly routine cross country flight. RIP

Great links, Megan !!!
Didn't know the RAAF even had a demo team. Have to ask Spaz of the F-16.net, F-35 forums, flew A-4 and other planes from the carrier and is firmly in control of the F-35 forums. NSW home and escaped the fires this past summer.
Glad to encounter someone that recalled the Tiger that the Blues flew for a few years. Saw one show at Denver in the early 60's with the F-11. Impressive. That altitude takes away more from the motor than most folks realize. I also thot it had a J-57 motor, but the thing it had was enuf for the solo to do a dirty roll just after wheels up - Lowry AFB. Up to then, I only saw the Blues at New Orleans NAS in Panthers and Cougars, then went up to the trade school in Colorado and Birds were in F-100's until early 70's.
Always thot that the Viper was made to order for a female or even a midget due to the seat and rudder pedal configuration. I am short, but could adjust everything to fit "just right". Rudder pedals only moved a half an inch and stick only "budged" an eighth of an inch at best. First ones I flew didn't move at all, heh heh.
