The answer to the question "what do you give the nav that has everything?", the answer used to be "penicillin". (other cures are available).

Doesn’t look like a Nav hand controller to me, unless it predates me...

The F3 rear seat one, later adopted by the GR4, was this one (auction nothing to do with me):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/19022896273

From memory it might be one of the flare/chaff/BOL IR dispensers that were next to the canopy on either side in the rear seat?

My memory is equally fallible but it does look like one of the active grab handles from the GR4 - starboard side I think.

I think you're correct, and the description on the auction site does say side controller. I think GR1 rear seat hand controllers were grey with a fairly prominent red button on top.

Yes I have a real one, but could it be a trial part?

As said, looks genuine to me - the navigator's right hand AGH.

Random question, but I don’t recall seeing a TARDIS with a grey surround, or the ‘1/2’ panel to the right of the NAVWAMS which I assume is a form of SCOT radio repeater (but not what ended up going on the jet). Is that a BAES or trials jet?

That's a German (and Italian?) ASSTA aircraft I think. If I remember rightly, TARDIS lower right was map scale, lower left was mode.
Seems to be same INHC though.

Other clues of its nationality include the ASI / Mach above the left knee. To the left of this, but out of frame, would be the HSI.

Who would have thought that an HSI would be useful for the nav? The Germans did miss out when it came to the laser though.

The WSO's hand controller on the F2/F3 required an average of 21 inputs in order to complete a standard 180 intercept. When we asked the the guys just back from F14 exchange how many it took on theirs, the answer was 9.......
