B-52 Question

On the video here at about 0:35, they seem to do a temporary crosswind gear taxi for a few seconds. Is this a normal taxi out procedure?

Yup - as I understand the flaps/spoilers work in sync with the ailerons at low speed for extra roll control. There is an in-cockpit vid doing the rounds which show the amount of yoke roll inputs the pilot make during takeoff. Its quite a beast to keep level at low speed in a crosswind.

After the late model G they never had ailerons, roll control was all spoilers. Made the late G and H more susceptible to dutch roll though.

The B-52 doesn't take off, if you watch carefully, it just follows a straight line trajectory and the curvature of the Earth combined with the length of the take off run does the rest...

This is known as a " low slot, port side " in the RN.

As ya'll drive on the wrong side of the road.....perhaps. But I believe you will find it is the low slot starboard side.....passing from forward (pointy end) going astern (towards the frothy end).

I thunk they only ever parked spare acft on the stbd side with the island, and the port side was left clear?

Really? Since when has the LSO's platform (visible under the B-52's STARBOARD wing) been located at the 'pointy end'?
