Military Aviation A forum for the professionals who fly military hardware. Also for the backroom boys and girls who support the flying and maintain the equipment, and without whom nothing would ever leave the ground. All armies, navies and air forces of the world equally welcome here.

My father joined when he ditched a Botha in the Channel in 1942. 3 hours in a dinghy before the boat got to them.

I went to a talk a few years ago by a chap who’d flown Stirlings during WW2, he ditched in the North Sea on the way back from a raid, he & his crew spent 3 days in their dinghy before being rescued. He was given a 48 hr leave pass to recover before returning to flying, less time than he’d spent ‘bobbin’ in the oggin’.
