Tu160s in Jo,berg
A week ago Friday, I was departing the Honolulu airport. Earlier as we arrived at the airport I'd noticed there was An124 but didn't pay that much attention. But as we were taxing out for takeoff, I noticed the An124 was parked on a closed runway (those big lighted "X" displays on the runway), and four black SUVs drove up to the An124 as we taxied by.

Joint South Africa, Russia and China naval manoeuvres.

I guess that nixes the UK's Simonstown Agreement

Russian power projection. Now that Trump has backed off for his supporter Putin, get used to Russians getting everywhere.
If you thought the US was a poor world policeman. Wait until you see the Russians!

Reported on Twitter that the 2 x Tu-160s departed South Africa last night.
From Tass News Agency.

The Tu-160 visit was apparently to take place during 2016 for a defence exhibition.
The bombers are part of the Russian Aerospace Force’s air group, which is visiting South Africa under an agreement on military cooperation signed between the defense ministries of both countries in the summer of 1995.

Thanks guys, all clear, but at first I thought my eyes were fooling me, I have never seen a 160 before.
My two grandsons thought they were both Concordes at first !

Yes, it's quite a feat fielding two bombers like that. Of course the US do this sort of thing (and then some) on an almost weekly basis without all the hoopla. Only today they pitched a couple B2s and B52s into Europe and back just for bantz, meanwhile their B52s deployed at Fairford and in the Gulf got busy again
It wasn't the sight of the AN-124 that I thought was unusual, it was the bit about it being parked on closed runway in the middle of the airfield, and the four black SUVs...

I don't recall - I would have taken a picture but I'd already turned off my phone in preparation for takeoff. I've seen plenty of AN-124s - they'd make semi-regular appearances when I was working at Boeing Field, usually bringing in new 777 engines when one of the engine manufactures was late on their deliveries.

Maybe... I didn't see any movie cameras but perhaps they were just in the rehearsal stage, or maybe doing something filmed from the participants perspective. It sure didn't look 'routine', and the black SUVs have become almost cliche...
Seemingly welcomed with open arms as they farming land where really has not been much done and there is lots of land. Reckon if 15-20,000 move then Russia to win RWC in 2035.

No way you can shoot a film there. I shot Chappie at Denel on the other side of the airfield and we were never allowed anywhere near the taxiways. Apparently the 160's went there for fuel and the longer runway.
Are you talking about Joberg? Because my posts were specifically referring to what I witnessed at the Honolulu airport.
For those who don't know, a Burg is something fortified like a castle etc., a Berg is a hill or mountain.
One place I lived had a ruined castle on a hill, the hill was called der Burgberg.
