Why would the Germans want or. need even a part share in a Aircraft Carrier?

They land their helicopters on Frigates now and none of their airplanes are carrier capable.

Or did Wiki lie to me?

As I understand it, the Germans wont be building a new carrier but jointly operating a carrier with the French.

Why would the Germans want or. need even a part share in a Aircraft Carrier?
To demonstrate their commitment to European defence? Increasingly, the Germans are embarking on joint projects with the French (see the joint C-130J unit), and this would be another example of this.

none of their airplanes are carrier capable.
For now. They are considering both the Super Hornet and Growler for their Tornado replacement, and a split buy with more Eurofighters is not inconceivable (in fact, this carrier talk makes it more likely). And as mentioned above, the FCAS fighter will be carrier capable for the French, and German involvement in the carriers would bring them onboard also, so to speak.

They land their helicopters on Frigates now
And they can still do that when/if they operate from carriers also.

Watch this space, I'd say.

It's interesting how things seem to be coming together in Germany for possible Super Hornet/Growler buy - (

Brexit must have thrown a real scare into the EU!

The Germans and French teaming up as allies while worrying about the threat from across the Channel perhaps?

New carrier to go with the European Army. Something else that they will fail to fund just like NATO.

Oh, give over! The only ones talking about "the threat from across the Channel" are the more rabid elements of the Eurosceptic fringes over here in the UK.
