Greetings, Happy New Year to all.

Remember Gibraltar? Loads of new housing being built at 4 Corners. Nice place to be (quirky - yes), fun Marinas, Big Lizzy visiting, make a nice base?

I think it's stll an RAF base but civilian operated. Officers Mess was well placed for the border and had its own private beach; wonder what it's used for nowadays?

A few years ago, the old RAF OM had become a Joint Service SNCO Mess, I believe; and AFAIK there was (is?) a Joint OM in town, somewhere near the Governor's house (The Convent)

You should have stopped off in Vanuatu at Le Lagon resort...used by discerning maritime crews from Australasia for decades...

When I read that, my Wobbly Warsteiner glasses clinked in sympathy.
Fortunately I lived on the top patch so the walk home from the Mess was short and easy [apart from crossing the main road ......]

I always understood it was part of a plot by high ranking Luftwaffe officers to assassinate Goering, but who am I to argue.

Yes, I've quaffed many a "charlie" under that beam in my mis-spent youth. Happy days indeed!

There was a W/O with us; his Sgts Mess bar bill was 98p and he told us tales of being wheeled back to his accomodation in a supermarket trolley every night!
