I did not bother to look at the Comments....and generally do not for any article no matter the source.

There are plenty of stupid people with access to the internet and thus able to make stupid assed comments.

I couldn't agree more, PN's reference to the comments on West Coast's linked FOX News article are a case in point!

RP, correct, thank you. It is often instructive to read what Joe Public make of articles which have a totally different meaning to the brotherhood.

US Navy ends search for missing Argentine sub

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Navy is wrapping up its search for a missing Argentine submarine that disappeared in November with 44 crew aboard, according to a release from U.S. Southern Command.

At the height of its efforts, the U.S. had more than 200 personnel assigned to the mission, including P-8 Poseidon aircraft, four submersibles, an underwater rescue unit and various equipment. The U.S. Navy dropped more than 400 sonobuoys during the effort to locate the submarine San Juan. SOUTHCOM did a complete sweep of its assigned areas twice and were unable to locate the sub, the release said.

“On behalf of the people of the United States, we offer our respects to the families of the crew of ARA San Juan and the people of Argentina,” said Rear Adm. Daniel B. Abel, director of operations for SOUTHCOM.

The two assets, the Research Vessel Atlantis and a cable-controlled Undersea Recovery Vehicle are being recalled, said SOUTHCOM spokesman Cmdr. Erik Reynolds.........

BUENOS AIRES, September 22. /TASS/. US seabed survey company Ocean Infinity has detected an object of the size of Argentina’s San Juan submarine, which went missing last November, Argentine Defense Minister Oscar Aguad said on Friday.

The minister said the "important signal" was recorded at the depth of 280 meters.

"It is surprising that the object wasn’t discovered before," he said.

Argentina submarine: ARA San Juan found

According to a tweet from the Argentine navy, the ARA San Juan had been positively identified under the water by a US company.

The navy had earlier shared a picture from the seabed, suggesting a 60m-long object might be the missing submarine.

This is the bow. Note the six 533 mm torpedo tubes. Other two pictures are released, but this one shows the unmistakable bow section of a TR1700 class boat. It is look lke the pressure hull is pretty much intact or, at least, in one big piece.

Sad news, but at least some answers to the relatives.

Regards,

Just repeating what I understood to be a statement by the US company that found her, I assume they were working from pictures, not sonar, I thought they said that the pressure hull had collapsed?

EDIT: Just received this link: https://gcaptain.com/argentine-sub-f...eid=9ebdf62b44

I would have thought that all those electrical connections for the torpedo tubes would be on the inside of the boat.

Could one guess the outer part of the casing broke off on impact with the sea bed?

Can’t make out the bow doors.
With the eye of faith, you can just about make out the two mid-line and upper right doors. This photo shows them more clearly

Thanks for that, topgas. One does have too look a bit closely, but indeed they can be construed on ORAC's photo.
