ACM Sir Stuart Peach elected as NATO CMC
MOD has announced that CDS, Stu Peach, has been elected by his fellow NATO Chiefs of Defence to be NATO's next Chairman of the Military Committee (CMC). He will be, I believe, the first RAF officer- and, of course, the first Navigator - to occupy this post and he will take it over in June 2018.

Nice news ... yesterday's Times had a piece on the subject suggesting that some of our NATO partners might vote against him as a punishment for Brexit. Glad common sense prevailed.

No, he will leave his national post on moving to Brussels next summer ..... and no doubt the question of who will then succeed him here as CDS will already have begun to exercise minds in London.

The Times also suggested that Gen Messenger (RM), VCDS, could be in the frame to succeed, along with CGS Gen Carter.

"Place your bets ... "
"Don't shoot the Messenger!"
Me and my brother introduced ourselves to General Messenger a couple of years ago at a rugby dinner in London, seeing as how he was originally from Dundee, as we are. What a great guy. Very happy to sit at our table and reminisce - until someone thought he had better things to do than have a laugh with a couple of jocks, and dragged him off.
Team Gibraltar?

I see that Stu Peach's tenure as Chair of NATO's Military Committee ended today with his handing over to a Dutch Admiral.

With his combination of Rank and very senior appointments, I'd say Stu retires as the RAF's most senior Nav of all time!

Well, after serving for 10 years (!) as a 4*, across four appointments including the three most influential in the UK military (COM JFC as was, and VCDS both carrying more clout than the single-service chiefs) and the most senior in NATO, it surely can't be long until Peachy joins Jock Stirrup both as a Marshal of the RAF and in the House of Lords. Stirrup after all did a mere 7 years at 4*!
