I would love 205 squadron come back to life , after school watching the Shackletons coming to land at Changi .
I was only 8yrs old and used to lay on the grass slope opposite western dispersal.

Don't worry -at the current rate it 'll be like the RN - more Admirals than ships......................
The squadrons would be much more efficient, if there weren't aircraft messing up the stats. Like this award winning hospital without patients.

Your numbers were far lower than mentioned in this article I ran across this morning. (Mind you I am not confident that this article is a definitive source.)
What is the size of the Russian Sub Fleet?
I was also surprised to see that the Chinese are supposed to have 74 Subs.

my post of a couple of weeks ago showed remarkably small numbers of MODERN vessels in service - the naval analyses shows the Northern Fleet has only a couple of modern SSBN's and maybe 4 SSn's and that was 5 years ago.......... they may have added 3 more SSBN's to teh total fleet but generally construction slips right big time on Russian projects

Great news that soon UK will have MPA again - good luck to all involved.
Two questions:
1.at what altitude will it normally operate on station ? In the UK weather flying for hours in IMC/ turbulance/ icing sounds b uncomfortable! Will it have the the option to operate VMC at low levels for extended periods?
2. What will be its minimum speed manoevering over a datum? Slow is good! The Nimrod VMD was 200-225 knots which made it difficult to return to 'on top 'quickly! Presumably with its swept wings itha P8 will need to fly even faster?

On Saturday 7 March, a spotter website (Fighter Control) reported that an A400M (ZM405, callsign RRR4998) departed Brize at around 08:20 and descended to low-ish level (4000ft) over the Celtic Sea, returning to base about seven hours later. RTB now at 15:14. It was said to have been "on maritime recon ops, 160nm SW of Lands End."
Which would seem to be a similar area to that attracting the interest of Russian Naval Aviation on the same day.......
Wonder why they used an A400M and not the newly delivered P-8?

Why is the Poseidon designated MRA mk1 while the Lightning II remains the F35? Surely it should be FGR1 or similar?
Technically speaking, it is Lightning rather than Lightning II in UK use. Has the C-17 ever has a UK C1 designation? Not sure it ever has.
