Thanks - just done it for the other half - took 5 minutes to claim 8 years worth. Now waiting for confirmation it's been accepted.

Before everyone starts to get excited this was posted some time ago. I completed the forms on behalf of my wife (10 yrs overseas with me between 75 to 96) only to be told by HMRC that as she was already in receipt of a state old age pension in April 2016 she was not entitled to NI credits for the yrs spent accompanying me overseas.

Mick - were I in your position I would check with FPS that is the correct answer. They have just discovered for example that some people with preserved pensions have been wrongly informed that they had no entitlement. They got one guy £3.5 pa. plus £10k odd lump sum

Further to my post 3.

If you read the link (post 1) it tells you that only spouses or civil partners who accompanied their partner overseas after 6th April 1975 are eligible. Apparently it is linked in with the new state pension scheme that started in April 2016. Very unfair really, not only for overseas tours but many postings in the UK were in locations where one's spouse could not find employment.

I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could

Or where potential employment was incompatible with operational tours.

I posted something about this about a year ago, after my son spotted a very small column in a Sunday newspaper.

My wife applied and regained three years of NI credits to compensate her for contributions "lost" in Germany in the early 1980s.

Unlike you Shy, Mrs Shy probably always knew where she was!

Yes, in retrospect allowing the crewman to have the nav was a mistake.....

Those shiny paper things with squiggles on- I never knew what the point of them was!

(One pilot on 230 haughtily anounced to me on our first trip together, "Crewman, I generally do not require navigational assistance.) You can guess what came next...
