Sonic booms?

Wednesday my daughter was awakened by a" loud bang"at about 0530hrs.This morning (Thursday)I was awakened by (0530)what sounded like a double bang(thought someone had rapped loudly on my bedroom window).Only later did I think it was a sonic boom as we lived in Plymouth and heard Concord frequently.Anyone else hear this?Daughter is still in Plymouth.

Been happening in the west country for over 200 years. Nobody has an explanation.
Google 'barisal guns' for a close comparison.
