SAS 'not in my back yard'.. literally.

The locals are terrified they'll be falling from helicopters onto the patio.

Oh dear, here we go again. Everyone is becoming so, so delicate and precious that they are "insulted" or "disrespected" by everything they disagree with. Let's have reasoned argument without the emotive rubbish.
A dose of "Man Up" tablets is required.

This article shows the public have faith in the quality of MOD procurement!
They are simply worried about soldiers falling on their heads, they didnt seem concerned about the helicopters falling on them

It also cuts off a fairly decent road into the local town, and adds a lot of buggeration to their day to day activity.

And frankly, the locals were there first...

Glad it wasn't just me saw that link. This is what being 3 miles from the Welsh border does to a man...

Only if the locals were born before 1940.

As a matter of interest it is not the RAF Hereford site ( Credenhill ) that is the issue. It is the Pontrilas Army Training Area adjacent to the villages of Ewyas Harold and Pontrilas - although your point about pre-1940, or even earlier, still applies.

No, I am sorry Alfred-t-g. As a resident of Ewyas Harold it will only cut off a back road, going nowhere near any of our local towns (Hereford or Abergavenny). The vast majority of us will not be affected by its closure -surprised it has not happened earlier. And we coexist with the SAS quite happily thank you. The odd explosion and the movements of the AS365 Dauphins of 658 Sqn AAC are but the sound of freedom! And as a former Stn IntO at Odiham, when 7 Sqn pop in that is the icing on the cake!
We will continue to ignore the odd farmer who is anti - they must have something to moan about.

Interesting - I must've met the irate farmer then. They were not amused.

This report is really a bit of parochial fluff. Pontrilas is relatively small having visited a few times, once to avoid answering embarrassing questions for a couple of days. The minor road closure is only temporary during para drops from helicopters. It's not as disruptive as closing the A419 to do ULLA at South Cerney or back in the day shutting the A27 to drop an SSP at Tangmere. Most gratifying.

Dougie M, Whilst on short ground tour in ATC at Wyton, had a bunch of cadets visit local control. I heard a click and observed that one of them had closed a nearby road under the approach

Most things in the U.K. seem linked to overcrowding one way or another.
