Question for back end rotory wing crews..
What are different military's doing for eye pro for back enders when using ANVIS systems?
They obviously can't be used in conjunction with visors making areal gunnery and open door ops an issue.

Some fleets use the Alpha 928 helmet (MK 10 in mil speak) with Rigid Visor Cover.
This allows the user to use the visor and NVD simultaneously however, the distance from eye to google is increased.

A slight digression, the MoD has put a lot of effort into the development of FR AEA and other associated equipment; however, my understanding is that crews are still flying with standard non-FR helmets. Anyone know if this is being looked at, or if industry is capable of manufacturing FR flying helmets??
The issue has been talked about for at least the last 10 years but not so much as a concept has passed me by. So for now we still get the same flammable plastics and foam clamped to our heads with nice chimney-effect air passages around the burnable bits. If anything the risk appears to have been going in the wrong direction with the Mk10 over the Mk4 series.
Of course, the nomex helmet liners (courtesy of Luftwaffe) that some of us wear remain verboten.

Assuming that the MK 10 helmet visor cover hasn't been butchered to make the ancient models of NVDs fit via a botch job of a bracket from another helmet design and then slap a huge counterweight on the back.
In answer to the OP, for some fleets the answer is generally sod all.

Anvis systems are really no different to other in service NVD. While it is true step in Visors are common place they aren’t fielded for the Mk 10 RW helmet and the RVC has a unique Fireplace mount to accept inserts for different NVD types
In answer to your question though most guys wear no protection or use one of the cleared dust/ballistic/ snow goggles. Some use goggles that aren’t quite so cleared.
Due to the NVD fireplace mount fittings on Mk 10 RW unfortunately you cannot employ the clear visor with NVD fitted unlike the standard alpha mount which is excellent.
The French DGA have an FR tested Alpha helmet which is excellent and is a 928 variant including face shield and Powered NVD installation. But in all the burns footage I’ve seen the UK Helmets haven’t been a specific concern! So not something to be overly concerned about.

There aren't many helmets on the market that I can think of that provide the kind of fire protection mentioned above. Our friends across the channel have just introduced a UK built one (which passes their stringent flame/burn tests) for all their fixed wing static seat and RW crews. Why is there no tender out for something similar for UK MOD?

the 10 RW is the new helmet so no new tender exists but a number of upgrades have been requested that would bring us inline with the shiney French variant.
The real issue we face is something called MAHIS which is the military aviation helmet impact standard or double impact protection standard this means helmet design is complex for us but neither Mk4 or MK10 meet it! So this will be next to address!
Either Way MK10 is a more modern beast then the Mk4 family and a step in the right direction, now it needs some toys to make it standout from the crowd, some of those things would be a goggle solution and visor employment with NVD!

Fireplace Bracket for MK10
Hi Gents some advice needed someone mentioned about the bracket currently being used on the new MK10 to convert the ANVIS rigid visor cover to be able to house the Fenn goggles mount would anybody have a pic of the said bracket that straps on and how stable is it when fitted to the helmet and does it affect the eye relief or field of view.?
