Aviation Nation 2016 - Nellis AFB

Due to the total lack of decent military air shows in the UK now, I thought some might enjoy this virtual version of my local one held last weekend.

Nice to see the taxes I pay now go towards something worthwhile !

Welcome from CC 57 Wing - Brig Gen Jeannie M Leavitt:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1iorYWAB2o

USAF Capabilities Demo - F-15Cs / F-15Es / F-16Cs / A-10C / HH-60G: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okPKI7JU430

USAF Heritage Flight - F-35A / F-22A / F-86: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS2zYIqxsO8&t=723s

QF-4E: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TtxTF9BHKM&t=6s

F/A-18F: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4E-OdF7Uh4&t=5s

I didn't take many photos of aircraft this year as the best position for getting shots of aircraft taxying past was eliminated by a revised barrier arrangement.
However, I did get photos of the comprehensive munitions display and Draken's aircraft which I'll put up if anyone is interested.

Enjoy the virtual sunshine and show !

Not to forget the Civvy registed Mil 24D (NX120NX) and spooky US Army Dash 7 in the static as well.
But I did get the impression that all the other flying displays were just warms ups for the Thunderbirds, they do drag on a bit though, 45 mins from Engine start to take off.

Is the F-35 completely roped off? Hard to tell in the picture. The USMC model at Miramar a couple months ago was the only jet that the public was kept physically away from, with an armed guard standing not too far away.

All the F-35As were roped off or behind barriers.

The RNLAF F-35A in my photo had their LTC sqn cdr in attendance speaking to the public and a merchandising stand with aircrew and groundcrew (just out of shot in the corner).
The USAF F-35A in the modern day static was behind barriers next to the F-22A.
There was also another that flew - with a reasonably impressive take off climb - better than F-16 but probably lightly loaded on fuel.

Note the snazzy - and no doubt very expensive - integral access ladder design.

Interesting side-by-side dimensions comparison F-22A and F-35A

Zoomed in video of the USAF Historic Flight display - F-22A / F-35A / F-86:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IuwRINlyLg

The F-35A was definitely thrown around a bit more than in the USMC F-35B displays I have seen at MCAS Yuma.

F35 Ladder

This looks very similar to the one on the ancient A10A.
