It's been some years since I retired, and I had forgotten the significance of today's date until first the sound and then the sight of two Spitfires over our village reminded me. Boultbee Flight Academy with their Tr9 and another 9 restored and flown by an Exeter business man have been displaying over South Devon, based at Exeter Airport, in honour of Battle of Britain Day. This led on to recollections of hosting guests at numerous Battle of Britain cocktail parties and wondering whether those messes still left continue this tradition.
