Times obit today 6 July
Have just read the Times obit on Patrick Dorehill. Someone at The Thunderer needs to get a grip of their obit writer: Dorehill is described as "DSO, DSC and Bar", and there is a photo (published back to front, with flying badge, medal-ribbons on the left) purporting to be him, wearing what appears to be USAAC 'wings'.
Details, details . . but a sad lack of care. Gordon Sage's painting is good, though.

Very sad indeed ...
I've posted this before in connection with the passing of W/C David Penman DSO* OBE DFC* ... However it contains a link to an old video clip shot immediately post the Augsburg raid.

I guess most won't remember the name of their Review Officer at OASC (Biggin Hill) ... but does anyone remember Wing Commander David Penman DSO* OBE DFC* ?
I had the great pleasure of knowing and flying with Wg Cdr Penman when I was in short trousers while he undertook his final tour at Biggin before retirement.
He was one the famous WWII Augsburg raid ... here he is as a young Flt. Lt. A very inspirational man ... sadly no longer with us.

Marbles - I've already fired off a letter to The Times pointing out the error of their ways. Mind you as tomorrow's letter page is going to be swamped by the Chilcot report I doubt if it will get printed, but have a look just in case.
As a Times reader I have to admit that The Telegraph does these things a lot better, I think they may have a few journos who actually know something about the armed forces. I doubt if there is anyone at The Times who would know the difference between a Lieutenant Colonel and a Lance Corporal!
One point, though, those are Royal Rhodesian Air Force wings, which are quite correct, as Dorehill was serving in the RRAF.

There is a brief apology in today's Times about the DSC/DFC error and the reversed image. Don't know who does the aviation obits for The Times, but the Telegraph ones are usually well-researched.
