Just a thought, in memory

For us on this side of the pond, Memorial Day is a day to remember all of those who served under the colors, and then paid the price. No few friends of mine have done so.

For all who served, from wherever and under whatever colors, herewith is offered a salute, and in tribute a song that captures our feelings.

Said as well as it can be said.

In Flanders fields the poppies grow.......

Lonewolf,

Very evocative, very moving - thank you.

(Calls to mind the Kohima epitaph):

"When you go home, tell them of us and say,
For your tomorrow, we gave our today"

Thank you

When I think of all those men, our men and boys, who are remembered by the thousands of crosses...
To day I get to be husband, father and grandpa, the way these men never could and I dearly wish they could have. And I am thankful for them. May they rest in peace and never be forgotten.

Thank you, Lonewolf.
They are remembered and hopefully will be by our children's children.

I do not know the dignity of their birth, but I do know the glory of their death. They died unquestioning, uncomplaining, with faith in their hearts, and on their lips the hope that we would go on to victory. Always for them: Duty, Honor, Country. Always their blood, and sweat, and tears, as they saw the way and the light.
Duty. Honor. Country -- these are not for bargain sale or discount.
