At least the Fail didn't disappoint. Although "moving" is of course what the aircraft is doing, one cannot but help think that "flying" is the more accurate verb.

His other film is out BTW with the Puma landing in central London.. it's called Edge of Tomorrow

It's a man versus aliens in a sort of Groundhog Day format.

Those airborne shots are not Cruise. The shoes and hair are different.

Imagine underwriting that stunt!!

When the US Navy flew TC in an F-14 it was by a pilot who had the nickname

Bozo .

Alas, I cannot find the You Tube link I had bookmarked, but there are several parts on YT of a film on it of how they made Top Gun.

IIRC Mr Cruise had trouble keeping his lunch down when they took him up in an F-14 for real.
So the decision was made to back project all close ups.
Unlike the Froggies when they made Le Chevaliers du Ciel.

In preparation for his role, Tom Cruise was allowed to take 3 rides in the F-14 Tomcat. He vomited during the first trip but was okay during the other two.
Anthony Edwards is the only actor who didn't vomit while in the fighter jets.

Go the Goose-man.

Obviously no-one told them about the little trick of switching to 100 per cent oxygen...

TC cannot pull in Miramar's mess

@ Tartare

According to the late aviation photographer George Hall's Top Gun book ,TC was a tad miffed at not being able pull in the officers club at Happy Hour as all the girls were after chatting up the aircrews!

Amazon Amazon

He funnily enough putting together book at Miramar while they were making the movie by going up with the F-14 crews and using his own camera pod approved for mounting on F-14, F/A-18 and other fast jets

In the book there is quite a few movie stills and he went up in one of the chase planes AND he was up on the peak with 'Rat' the Ops Officer of Top Gun, choreographing the flights. 'Rat' became CINCPAC

Cheers

I'm pretty sure that the F14, in common with most US Navy jets of that time, delivered permanent 100% oxygen (and maybe they still do?).

Unfortunately 100% oxygen doesn't stop airsickness.

No shame in chundering your guts out in the back of a fast jet - been there, done that.

I had to larf, I saw a local tweet saying he was at Wittering today.

But then I just saw him in Stamford, leaving Superdrug .

(.. in all fairness to Tom, he might not be here for more high octane filming - he may have heard that Mary Berry is also in town today)

Didn't they give him a little bit of G training before taking him up?

Or was it just the sickness because of the flying its self and not so much the G-force?
