I was in Riyadh at the same time Smuj and Mal drop.

Walking through the lobby of the hotel with a back pack hiding the gas mask, tin hat and pistol and trying to look like tourists so we didn't frighten the business men. However many people it was wearing DPMs sor of gave the game away though.

The padre arriving with 5 or six boxes of "heavenly liquid" so he could give the troops communion before the ground war started. He was aeromeded back the a day or 2 later with fractured ribs. Apparently he had fallen into a slit trench in dark. Nothing to do with too much heavenly liquid..

The end of war bash - inventing a reason to send a Herc to Akrotiri (IIRC it was a landrover that had to be returned ASAP) so the crew could bring back a number of boxes with supplies of er heavenly liquid. The bash co-incided with one of the MAMS Sgts (D...e Be......u) 40th birthday.

Now you have stirred the memories.....

Riyadh

On the way to Ali Al Salem to recover the RAF Regt Fuch's Force. The team who looked for any chemical or bio weapons

Ali Al Salem air base

A couple of years after the war ended, I was doing CCS at Lyneham and saw a copy of Centurion, the magazine of RAF Catterick. On the cover was a photo of the recovery of the Fuch's Force. That's the MAMS Sgt and me walking from the Herc towards the camera. Quality not good as it was a photo of the cover.

The MAMS rover suitably decorated by the team.

Coff,

The right angled little green torch isn't the problem, it's launching SWMBO up the ladder. I'm afraid though, she may be coerced because I'm sure I have some decent photographs, lying in wait up there. Don't worry though, if she falls, I have the number of the Ambulance service for SWMBOs, 666 isn't it

At the risk of being pedantic the cartoon was by the very talented pilot, the late Pete Keeble of 24 Sqn and 242 OCU.

10Ktens,

Thanks for that. I had the honour of working for the man a couple of times. A true gentleman.

Continuing with the Labours of Hercules around the Pacific, I think this is Christmas Island.
We are getting more contributors by the day !

AA62 ... So that'll be Kiritimati (Christmas Island) in the Pacific Ocean ... aka now known as "Cassidy International Airport"

Again a lot of change/investment evident since you guys visited.

Asi Officers' Mess Bar (circa 1994).

Or a bit higher up Green Mountain, the 'Red Lion' seen complete with the local version of the Blackpool Illuminations (daylight shot only as there are gentle souls here who may by unprepared for the terrifying beauty of them switched on).

Mal Drop,
according to my log book we took XV213 on a TX rotation in June 94.
I also did several TX dets from ASI. Pics will be along in due course.
We must be acquainted I think if you did three tours on the 'K' as I was with the 'K' from 1968 until I retired in 1997.

AA62, I was on the 'K' from 1989 to 2002 (punctuated by a brief ground tour during which the Asi pics were taken - I was connected to the island by a large bungee), we will certainly know each other.

The reception committee at Christmas Island. I went for a bimble around and behind the terminal was a stack of Hasting's seats ! They had obviously been left when the RAF pulled out when the A bomb tests were finished. I wonder if they are still there. Perhaps the crabs have eaten them.

Despite the remains having been scrapped, engine fan blades appeared on the market and luckily it was caught when a US company contacted BA for more details on the components.... The scrappy not satisfied with the money he was paid to dispose of the parts decided to try to earn some more....GRRRRRRR

The nose wheel was in the Crewroom on XXIV until the news about parts appearing on the black market broke, whereupon it rapidly disappeared ( although this may have been a coincidence, as loads of other 'stuff', e.g the bugis street sign, also went!)

I'm hoping to find an answer to a question that I was asked today. I'm sure someone will have some info. I had a nice lunch today with an old GE mate, and, as always happens the conversation got around to Alberts, and all that went with him. Anyway, said ex GE was explaining that the series from the Lyneham Globe, "Rompers Green", was to be published on line and/or DVD. Does anyone know if it ever happened ?
