Buying a Lightning

OK, bit of a strange request maybe.

Does anybody know where I could source a Lightning (non-airworthy)? Just the shell - minus engines - will do.

My son wants one!

There's one sitting a few yards East of the A1 just North of Grantham.

It is (or always was) a bit further north, on the Newark bypass, just north of the Balderton roundabout

Wholigan, you could buy him an Airfix model! Better still leave him alone with a WIWOL for twenty minutes and he will be wanting something else!!!

A few years ago I ran a "British Jet Engine" website. I got an email from Everett offering to sell me a Pegasus engine. I emailed back stating that although some enthusiasts do construct frames to run small APU sized engines in their back garden, I had served on Harrier, had the pleasure of carrying out tie-down runs so I knew it wasn't something you could run up in your back garden. No problem they replied, we can sell you the airframe too

On the subject of my website (www britjet.co.uk but no longer owned by me) I used to get requests for spares from all over the world, including one from the Jordanian Air Force. I even got asked by one African airline if I could run a boroscope course for the RB211 engine. All these requests I referred to Rolls-Royce but I never got any commission out of it

Ohh, I don't Know Vendee...

I have actually had the pleasure Vendee of getting a phone call from Rolls Royce asking where they could get hold of a maintenance manual for one of their piston engines for one of their customers in South Africa lol.

That's a beautiful job Everett have done on ZD991.
Assume the donk is missing - or is it airworthy?
What a toy to own; just waiting for some billionaire.

Wholigan remember they were never really designed to be stripped, the wing removal was a pain, hence why a lot of the Saudi ones were chopped off when sold to museums.
Also factor in the shipping that can be megga as few specialise in aircraft moving... Ohhh and look after it, they are getting rare now and leaky cockpit seals etc can soon send them downhill corrosion wise. I'd treat it with Dinitrol or ACF 50 on all internal areas you can reach.
