Phil Pynegar - RAF Puma and Sim Instructor
Hello all, it's my sad duty to inform you that Phil Pynagar - Ex RAF Puma instructor and pilot with many many thousand hours - has passed away...after an 18 month battle with cancer.

That is such a dreadful shame, Phil was a really lovely instructor to learn from, and I enjoyed learning from him at DHFS very much. This has been a sad week for the SH Force. RIP.

I'm very sad to hear of this. I worked with "Pins" on the Puma OCU some years ago but had lost touch.

I'm reading this just after 6pm. Not an hour ago I was thinking about Phil and a few other pilots I classed as top drawer operators back in my time on Pumas. He was up there. Important to note that he taught crewmen too- he would indulge anyone who wanted to learn a bit more, with his time and knowledge.

My Puma OCU Flt Cdr first time around. When they were 50/50 on whether jayteeto would make it on 33 Squadron, he made the decision to give me a chance. The rest is history, I owe him big time. RIP

Phil and I served in the OCU together but there was a huge gulf between us. He had been there, done it (AFC) and had vast flying and instructional experience.
Another sad loss and my sympathies to all close to Phil.

Everything you could ask for in a gentleman, a pilot, an instructor and a person. Great talent, oodles of patience and always having the time to go the extra mile, and with a beaming smile.
You have achieved so much for so many and never asked for anything back. RiP Phil, another dram tonight for another great loss. My thoughts are with your family and all who knew and loved you.

Two generations of my family were lucky enough to know Phil on 33 sqn and had the pleasure of his company later in life at the flight sim, Benson.

A sad day indeed. Flew with Phil on 230, as an Instructor on Gazelles, back to the Puma and then on the C130, including one flight into Shawbury where the whole crew were ex-rotary.
Spoke with him a few months ago and he sounded just the way I have always known him.
Condolences to Sheila and the whole family from Me and Jo.

That's very sad news.
We did a couple of tours together and he was a very good instructor indeed.
Very much a team player and a good Puma OCU Boss.
