RIP Sir, your writings will sadly be missed.... As a lad I grew up enthralled in your books, you Sir kindled my interest from a young age.

Likewise. RIP Bill Gunston from another young lad that was inspired by your writings in the 70s/80s.

Is this the same man that used to give hilarious after dinner speeches/talks relating his experience in ATC?

what was great about his books was that it wasn't dry as dust tech specs and history - he really got behind the ups & downs of each aircraft programme - maybe he was a bit biased but you got a much better feel why certain 'planes worked and others didn't

Very sad to read this news. Always enjoyed reading his books. I will be looking in my bookcases tonight to count up just how many I have.

I bumped into Bill at a few Farnboroughs and Paris Air Shows.
He was a real authority, ranging from such references as "Jane's Aerospace Dictionary", "Aero Engines" through to his classic " Aircraft of the Soviet Union" ( he was a Russian speaker). These alone are still authoritative sources.
We have just lost one of the giants of his era in aviation knowledge .

Let me add my appreciation for Mr Gunston's writing style. Always an enjoyable read, and yes, an inspiration for so many people. We have lost a giant.
