Military Aviation A forum for the professionals who fly military hardware. Also for the backroom boys and girls who support the flying and maintain the equipment, and without whom nothing would ever leave the ground. All armies, navies and air forces of the world equally welcome here.

It's foam, it's designed and I quote one of the links

The foam generators suspended from the ceiling released suppressant similar to soap that submerged the planes in the hangar. It takes two minutes to fill a 90,000 square-foot hangar with more than three feet of two percent high-expansion biodegradable foam.

Here’s a video showing how fire suppression systems work.

Impressive isn't it.

At a foreign base I once worked at, a severe thunderstorm was forecast. The chief engineer decided to bring all the aircraft into the hangar to protect them.

The storm arrived, the hangar was struck by lightning and the foam system was triggered!

Result as above.....

Rosevidney,

If cleanliness is next to godliness, I think your dictionary is missing a few pages.....

May not be a problem for the USAF as such.

OC to Airman Bloggs "Bloggs clean all the aircraft by tomorrow"

Bloggs to Pratt "Pratt, hit that red button on the hangar wall, then we can go for a pint or two"

A nice reversal of the usual... I admit it gave this old Jarhead Sgt a thrill.
