Ahhh - that would explain the awful decision making that time and time again shows the top have utterly lost touch with the bottom or even the middle.

Apparently it's been a source of gossip for some time now.

While I don't believe all I read on t'interweb, this guy made some interesting points a while back.

Back on track, how long has it been since there was a DefSec with any real credibility? Scanning through the list I'm struggling to think of one, though Pere Artist worked for and rated Heseltine. The last government's lot were particularly poor.

Perhaps, scandal aside, Fox is the best we can hope for? I do hope not.

Love the suggestion Wherrity should be new man at MOD as he has been at all the meetings and is obviously a mind reader as he knows where Fox is always going to be.

What is the real concern?

One assumes that Fox has been vetted and presumably the PM, Fox's wife and the Security Services are aware that Werrity is his boyfriend and the marriage only happened because the Tory voters could not be relied upon to support him as leader of the Conservative Party if he was openly gay/bi.

So: SECURITY - if everyone who matters knows your secret then blackmail is not a problem. I suspect that Werrity has been given as deep a vetting as has Fox's wife.

So: GRAFT - that is the only question, is he using his influence to make money?

If someone wants to have their (de-facto) partner with them on business, that is fine, but my wife might join us for dinner, she is never in my business meetings! For all we know, Fox has personally paid for all this travel.

So, was he making money out of it or did he have to pretend to be an official to avoid having to say "I'm the boyfriend", but otherwise no harm was done.

If he wishes to bring his "partner" then its a non issue as there are and have been enough Gay MPs who have brought their partners, long as its declared then a non issue.

What is more sinister is that he turned up everywhere Fox did, kind of strange where no relationship is supposed to exist as that kind of opens up mega security concerns for anybody targetting Fox. Just follow Wherrity and he will lead you to him.

However the buying of an advisor for Fox by various interests corrupts the role of a Secretary of State as would people willing accept Unite or any Union buying an advisor for a Labour minister ?

Would it be acceptable if Fox had the advisor paid for by BP / Total who will benefit substantially by the removal of Gadaffi from power ?

Did you miss the bit about the good Mr Fox being happily married since 2005?

hmmmmm.

The UK used to talk about being gay, then they legalised and Fox is the beginning of making it compulsory......

The Fox is in charge of the "hen" house....oops, "rooster" house..

I have a good friend who was a contract manager; he used to work for me.

At one time I was working on a contract statement of requirements and evaluating contractor submissions.

Now no one could stop him talking to me about contracts and I was trusted not to talk contracts to him. You might say he was an unpaid advisor.

Now suppose he had come and stayed in the same hotel as me . . .

Now suppose I had brought him to the contract evaluation meeting . . .

I suggest the parallels might be the same but I don't think I would have got away without an investigation and a reprimand. Maybe Sec Def will get a rep too.

And your point is ?

Rock Hudson was married
Elton John was even married FFS

How many Tory MPs have come out after been "alledgedly" happily married for years
Greg Barker
Crispin Blunt
are one who spring to mind but there are no doubt others.

One can imagine a situation where it might suit the "accused" to come out. It might take the heat off the possibility of there being a financial element/motive.

A_A, I wait with bated breath for a plausible reason why it might be acceptable to bring your partner to business meetings.
