Of course, no experimental Fast Jet, Airliner, Truckie, Piston, Glider or Helicopter has ever had a dent in the early testing phase has it? At least with this "Austin Powers" style sloooowwww crrraaaasssshhhhh it should be fixed quickly and all concerned are well enough to work out exactly what "corner" they found themselves in....

On the plus side, if that is a "crash", then it has amazing survivability!
They must have had time to debrief the event before contact with the ground.

They put this statement on Facebook:
Today the prototype Airlander 10 undertook its second test flight and flew for 100 minutes, completing all the planned tasks before returning to Cardington to land. The Airlander experienced a heavy landing and the front of the flight deck has sustained some damage which is currently being assessed. Both pilots and the ground crew are safe and well and the aircraft is secured and stable at its normal mooring location. Hybrid Air Vehicles runs a robust set of procedures for flight test activities and investigation of issues. We will be running through these in the days ahead as we continue the development of the Airlander aircraft. Further updates will follow in due course.

Why? Were you disappointed when the Pred/Reap proved very effective on Ops as it didn't have a man in it, or, indeed that the world was proven not to be flat? If this was Govt funding and taking cash away from more mainstream capability I'd have more sympathy. The joy of Capitalism is that people can choose where to spend their money (wastefully or otherwise). We bang on on this website about a lack of innovation and the demise of the UK aircraft industry; here's an example of a company bucking the trend but because it doesn't conform to conservative established opinion it's trashed.
Wishing them ill is small minded, rude and frankly unpatriotic. I hope it does well, sells well and returns a handsome profit. If it doesn't, then those that have invested have lost their stake - caveat emptor. It's not like MRA4 leaving a 10 year capability gap and several £Bns of public money behind it.....

NP chap - there's very little Govt coin invested in this. Most of it is leveraged from Industry (Selex/Leonardo have put some funding in) and private investors. Up to them how they spend their money. If it works, good on them - if not, well, the value of your investment can go down as well as up...

Whoever's in charge of the company's Twitter feed was clearly aware of the rich seam of comedy this incident created, given they liked my "Yae need more thrust! " and regulation "I'm sure it'll buff out" Tweets...
I'm guessing the crew had more than sufficient time to go cower at the rear of the cabin when the saw the ground inexorably looming.
