RAF/RAE Llanbedr

Can anyone give an insight into the status of this airfield?

Last I knew it was being used as a relief landing ground for Hawks from Valley but that was 15 years ago.

I had understood it was closed down but went past it this weekend and it seemed in too good a condition to be disused. Can't find any current info on it online.

Cheers

I flew past it last summer and the runways, sadly, are all marked "X". There was a rumour at one time that the Hunter outfit from Kemble, sorry Cotswold International (!), was going to move there, but it came to naught.

I think its re-opening is still on the cards, but planning issues/NIMBYism are blocking them, especially from the main Welsh heritage group (can't remember its name)
Quite a long thread in flyer forums.

I know a few of the locals and while havin a few sherbets at an establishment near Llanbeder a while ago we had a discussion on the reopening. Most of them miss the place as it had employed a huge chunk of the community and we agreed that the NIMBY's would be better off if it went into civvie hands as this would put an end to the RAF and Army using the field for CAS exercises and the like.
Last time I was there there were Tonkas, F-15E's and Swedish Gripens hammering the place day and night. Grant it this doesn't happen very often but military aircraft still do carry out simulated airfield attacks and fly low level over the place on a daily basis.
So it would be in their intrest for it to reopen. (eh..maybe the hunters etc would throw a fly in their ointment though )

Some good imagery of the place on Google Maps. All three runways are marked X.
