A scenario. with cvil ships, no surprises, a few dozen trawlers, live on television from the day they leave the harbors, interviewing everybody onboard?
Send a Typhoon? The UN, Brazil and the US would be on the phone before it leaves the runway. A PR nightmare.
Maybe a 30 yr old like scenario is a irrealistic starting point.

Just what is the 'wrong end' of a para illum!!!
Needless to say he was escorted in by a couple of F3's well before crossing the coast and was looking at the wrong end of a number of loaded L58A1's when he came to a halt.

The bomb is ballistically matched to the L54A1 White Light Illuminating bomb. It uses a DM93 mechanical time fuze to ensure that it is deployed at an appropriate altitude.

Based on some of your optimistic comments I would hazard your background is air defence, ground based...
I don't think this is the right place to debate some of your comments, but my own experience would suggest your glasses are somewhat rose tinted!

I hope the Argies are polite enough to invade on a day that suits the typhoons and the RAF's needs with regard to WX, mx, staffing, logistics and lord knows whatever else. A lot is riding on the backs of just a few jets in the scenario where they save the day.

I notice many folks imagine all kinds of successful militairy exchanges similar to 30, 70 yrs ago.
I think is a good thing to balance the expectations a bit by painting not so unlikely, far less glorious, even embarrasing scenarios.
Its seems Brazil and the USA do not support the UK position on the Falklands. I can imagine Russia and China will not be happy. India, nah.. Even Chile supports the Argentine position.
When the rest of the world just doesn't understand, better stop the rethorics and flagwaving and start finding some allies, I would think.

so I wouldn't call them allies for that reason.

You would be correct in your guess of my original back-room boy employment (my username is a giveaway anyway). Most of what I wrote is based on what is here . I have no idea what CBFFI's battle plans are, but for what my part of it was last time I was down there, which I will not discuss either (but for the fact that I've had a personnel weapon issued every time and have zero'ed it on a range (first trip was the best, SLR and got qualified on the GPMG as well to do LLAD)). Also all of my fellow servicemen had access to personal weapons as well. OK, they are not line infantry, but they can man a defensive position, therefore there is more than just 120 armed squaddies defending the place if required. The rest of my comments are conjecture, but based on a sound knowledge of military history and tactics. I may have a rose tinned view, but that is based on the knowledge that the current kit is a damm sight more reliable than what was there in the past and a damm sight more capable. Argies on the other hand have gone backwards in a lot of respects.

It may not be on their route map. but go to their booking page and type in Punta Arenas (PUO) and Mount Pleasant (MPN) in depart and arrive and select a Saturday and you can book a ticket.
