I'd be very grateful if anyone could alert me to a repeat showing of this programme (please, please, please not program!). Was busy on Tuesday and had forgotten it was on - until 10.25pm!

Install U-Torrent, and then go to this page and click on "Download this torrent", under the big green button.
Sit back and it will arrive, bit by bit, until it's all done. About 1.3Gb, so will take a while. You can then play it on your PC, or perhaps your TV if you have HDMI leads and ports. The file is not DRM protected, unlike the BBCI-player, so you can keep it for posterity.

I have just sat and watched this, what a moving piece of film making 
.. Very well put together, really did convey emotions well, having learnt to fly, I could almost feel the same excitement as he climbed into the Spitfire for the first time.
A very poweful film, almost had a 30 year old bloke in tears.
We will remember...

Oh Dear!
Sorry guys, but I didn't rate the presentation of it! Wellum and his fellow sqn members were well portrayed, but I was looking for more. Not the same few faces all the time. Absolutely no reflection on the men, just the mechanical BBC (Lion TV) treatment.
The bravery of Sqn Ldr Wellum (and his fellow pilots) speaks for itself and his early award of the DFC says it all. Hymie65 summed it up for me.

Sorry, folks, not a patch on the book. The book does not say that he was sent solo in a Spitfire by two airmen, with no apparent close overview by the boss. Was that really how it was in those days? I can't believe so.
The combat stress was well covered, though it possibly wasn't understood to the extent it deserved to be. Too much sex interest for a programme to honour the Few.
Interesting, but 5 out of 10.

As said above, absolutely not a patch on the book.
Nowhere near the amount of emotion or excitement contained in the book was portrated by the BBC.
Mr Wellum is very nice chap to go with it.

I've found uTorrent for the Mac better than Transmission, having used both. Transmission allows you to grab parts of multi-part torrents, however uTorrent seems to do a better job, in my experience.

The book was excellent - I'm moved by the fact that, like Cecil Lewis, it's less about being a dashing, untouchable hero and more about just being human and coping. The coping bit is echoed in a lot of wartime experiences, from that Century and earlier - it's coping not only with war and the threat of death, but with being accepted and not letting the side down when the moment counts. It's almost as though death is final and a damned inconvenience, but losing the respect of peers and subordinates alike is worse. pleasing the Boss and chiselling for a good ACR never seemed to show its shallow face!
The programme was good in that it portrayed the human aspect, how fear manifests its self strangely; and let's face it, there are many who aren't likely to read the book. However, I'm back in it and currently enjoying the Harvard flying training.
I'd love to meet Sqn Ldr Wellum, but, as mooted previously, would suffer the curse of awe! I will remember all they did and where they came from.

The real stars were Wellum (the real one) and the Spits (the real ones). Sepia tones worked well. Compared to the rest of the dross that masquerades as popular entertainment the programme was in a league of its own. Well done BBC.

Wellum was in good form on the McGregor programme last night. Hard to remember that he's 88, I think. He could pass for 20 years younger
I thought the McGregor programme was going quite well last night [apart from the "expert" - did he have to mock Dowding? ] until there was mention of Bader leading 12 Grp. - not a 12 Grp Wing, 12Grp. itself - oh dear.All credibility went at that point.
The "expert" was Stephen Bungay who, of course, has just published a book, "The Most Dangerous Enemy" about the Battle of Britain. He had been previously on another prog, together with yet another author of yet another book about the BoB. Also in the same panel of interviewees was the present AOC 1 Group (I think, apologies if I'm wrong). To say the latter's body language said that he'd rather be anywhere else other than in the presence of these two clever dicks scoring points off each other at every opportunity is to understate the hot house atmosphere of this typical product of the Beeb's love of revisionist thinkers ready as always to fight other people's wars. At one point Bungay dismissed German Intelligence as knowing everything but understanding nothing. One felt that the comment could be equally applied to him!

I noticed Sjt* too, plus something else but forget what, only triv anyway. Overall a good programme but I'd rather have seen the present day Wellum in a seperate documentery instead of cutting in to the 1940 era.
Anyone notice the "walking like Bader" syndrome after being shot up by the 109. New shreddies please?
