Here's a bit of late 70's nostalgia for those that experienced their first flight in a Chipmunk as an Air Cadet

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=quAzZbNEX98

Mind you ... I'd like to find a copy of the 'original' AEF Briefing Film which was shot at RAF White Waltham.

Contrast now the fact (and quite correctly) that Air Cadets who fly AEF in the Tutor are properly attired with full Flying Clothing, Bonedome/Visor and Flying Gloves.

John Eacott, your Prentice looks like it might have been G-AOMF which was owned by Surrey & Kent FC at Biggin in '61.

I did a RN flying scholarship at the Surrey and Kent in 1964 and had a ride in the Prentice with an old, to an 18 year old, chap.

If memory serves we did a couple of circuits.

IIRC it had pneumatic brakes.

I am still surprised how small the prop seemed to be for such a large aircraft.

The two Chipmunks I mentioned previously were/are WK565 and WD373, taken over Old Sarum during Summer camp in 1970.

For some reason I can't get this photograph to upload via Flickr?!

I hope this info is of interest?

Just helping our good friend Wander00 post a couple of pics of the 'La Rochelle' Chipmunk he recently took. The airframe was WZ877 (CI-0915 : DHB.f.805)

It would also appear that the owner is a fellow PPRuNe Member

See Post 27 from Aug 2013 here ...

Many thanks for sharing Wander old chap ...

Best

Brilliant Nutty ... Many thanks

I assume you were in the right place, right time on the ground to take the pic during an aerobatic sequence ?

Not quite the correct forum I know, but does anyone please have photos/details of RMAF Chipmunks? Did they carry underwing serials and if they did, how were they presented? I'm aware of the RMAF Museum example, but have some misgivings as to its accuracy.
Thank you.

This is for NigeF51D
I'm looking at my father's logbook for 17th August 1976 at Summer Camp St Mawgan which shows that he flew WP914 that day. He also flew WZ847 during that camp. So it looks like there's a 50% chance he flew you that day.
WZ 847 is G-CPMK which attended the celebration and WP914 is F-AZSM.
During his 25 year AEF Chipmunk career 1951/76, my father flew forty six different aircraft and must have taken thousands of cadets for their first flights. They wouldn't have known, of course, that , only a few years earlier, he was the Captain of Wellingtons and Liberators.
I have my own 414 from the early 60's and did my PPL on Chipmunks at Elstree in 1965. Wonderful memories.

Many thanks chipnostalgia, that helps. I did manage to record the take-off time as 1500 for a duration of 20 minutes. Does that narrow it down?
Wonderful memories indeed!

Hello Nige
His logbook has two entries for that day ; Self.......Cadets 1hr.45 and 2.10. Presumably before and after lunch.
If I remember rightly , 20mins was the usual flight time.
Pleased to be of help
A few pages ago in this thread there is a photo of WK576 at Roborough, Plymouth, on 11th February 1967. My father is in the front seat.
I'm finding these bits of various jigsaws interesting and hopefully will be able to fill in more details in the future
Best wishes

Nutty ...

Many thanks for the refresh on your pics ... Outstanding

This would appear to be the cockpit video of that display ...

Must have been a small camera on the port wing tip though

Gents:

There's been some activity on the "History and Nostalgia" Forum concerning my earlier query about RMAF Chipmunks.

There's also an explanation regarding the "Shipmunk":
