I grew up as a young teenager on Cranwell North 1966-71 had many glider flights in the Sedberghs and Tiger Moth & Austers. Remember the Chipmunks using the airfield ,this website is very nostalgic. Archives

Linton on Ouse, winter 1968: no LSJ, they may have kept us warm

Even the RAF jacket was an effort to acquire, the only one issued to my course; long story

Here are a couple of 'Vimeo' videos from HDVS Video covering the 70th Anniversary Meet.

Well worth watching IMHO ... quite a few well known names doing pieces to camera

A video review of the Chipmunk First Flight 70th Anniversay meet on 22nd May at Old Warden. Introduction by Tim Calloway and interviews with Phil Derry, David Gillespie, Sonja Fillingham, Michael Neal, Tony Cowan and David Higgins with Steve Le Vien summing up. A wonderful event with a large number of Chipmunks and their owners celebrating the first flight seventy years ago to the day.

Short Version.

Shame 'Smell-O-Vision' isn't yet mainstream

Best ...

FWIW it did have a fold down flap up inside the back, for covering the nether regions....

Thanks.

Just bought a part share of a Chipmunk and have a checklist and SSG but was wondering if anybody has an Instructors Handbook or a link that I could copy?
Unusually for RAF documents, the instructor's manual for the Chipmunk was very poor. When I was instructing in the 90s, we all had a copy but never used it as it hadn't been updated much since the 60s, was out of date and practically unusable. Instead, most of us used the SSG and the CFS issued and unofficial sequence development notes. I'm not sure where mine went, but I'm sure I saved them. If they resurface, I will copy them.

If you could please let me have a copy of the SSG I would be very grateful indeed.
I am just starting out on the Chipmunk and it would get me into "best practice" early!

Unfortunately I don't have the side number/serial number list The only positive ID I have was "B" WP799.

We were on F Flight, 3 Sqn, 1 FTS.

My second flight was in a Chipmunk though, and what a Hot Rod that felt!

Great thread! I was fortunate to be one of the weekend ATC Staff Cadets on 6 AEF mid to late 70s. Two great bosses Ken Knott and I think Jim? Wilson. ISTR KK became the Wg Cdr for Oxon Bucks Berks ATC Wing after he retired. I do not have my 22 right now but will post the ac numbers when I do.

The La Rochelle Chipmunk was at Fontenay le Comte for the flying club's pre-season portes ouvertes Spoke to owner who courteously showed me round the aeroplane. Also there were the "historic squadron" from Niort with 2 of their aircraft(Nord 1101 and 3202), a Morane Saulnier 317 and a Waco biplane.
